It has come to my attention that there are plans for an anonymous family to light fireworks on Christmas Eve. I have received numerous complaints about this planned event.
To be clear, residents who plan to light fireworks must obtain a permit signed by both the Fire Chief and the Police Chief 15 days before the anticipated display. We have not received a permit request, and therefore, any fireworks display would violate the town ordinance and be punishable by up to a $1,000 fine.
I have no desire to play the role of Grinch, but a fireworks display is not permissible this year. Please look at the town website under the Fire Department tab for a copy of the ordinance.
May we all enjoy this Christmas season...
Sincerely,
Chief Horne

The Hancock Police Department is currently seeking applicants for full-time patrol positions. Hancock (pop. 1654) is one of the most beautiful historic towns in New England. We are located in the Monadnock region convenient to Manchester, Concord and Keene. There are many outdoor attractions including lakes and ponds that are great for boating or fishing. The Town of Hancock boasts a conservation and education center, a campground, and many seasonal events that bring our citizens and officers together as a community. We offer a small, friendly, and challenging work environment.

Successful candidates will provide general public safety, enforce traffic and criminal law, conduct criminal and accident investigations, and participate in community policing activities.
Candidates must possess strong problem-solving skills and be motivated to be a part of a community inspired department. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, be 18 years of age, hold a valid driver’s license, and be able to pass an extensive background check.

The Town of Hancock offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience, a benefit package including medical and retirement plan, paid time off, and overtime pay. All uniforms and equipment are issued by the department. Career development opportunities are accessible and encouraged.

Candidates must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Reasonable traveling distance from a candidate’s residence to the Town of Hancock is required for emergency response. A Message to Our Community: Respect During Election Season

This letter is to remind our community that election season is a time for all of us to express our opinions and engage in meaningful discussions about the future of our community, state, and country. We must remember that our right to free speech comes with the responsibility of respecting the views of others, even when we disagree.

The Hancock Police Department kindly asks that everyone refrain from removing, defacing, or destroying political signs placed on public or private property. These signs are a lawful expression of personal beliefs and opinions. Acts of vandalism or theft, in any form, violate property rights and disrupt the spirit of civil discourse. It is also illegal. Persons found to responsible for this behavior can face up to a $2000 fine.

Please be considerate of your neighbors and respectful of the rights we all share. Let’s engage in productive discussions and uphold the values of our community during this election season.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in maintaining a respectful and peaceful environment for all.

Sincerely,

Thomas Horne
