Murder Conviction in 2020 Corcoran Homicide

On May 26, 2026, in Department 8 of the Kings County Superior Court, a Kings County jury found Eddie Rosas, 38, guilty of first-degree murder for the 2020 shooting death of Corcoran resident Rudy Mendez in the case of People v. Eddie Rosas (Kings County Superior Court Case No. 20CM-5502).

Rosas was convicted of First-Degree Murder with the Intentional and Personal Discharge of a Firearm Causing Death, Assault with a Firearm, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm in a Public Place. The jury also found true an allegation that Rosas personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, causing death. Additionally, the Court found true that Rosas had a prior strike conviction from 2007.

The case was investigated by the Corcoran Police Department and the Kings County Sheriffs Office. Senior Deputy District Attorney Joshua Pedersen prosecuted the case. The lead investigating officer was Senior Deputy Trent Augustus.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 29, 2026. Rosas faces a sentence of 75 years to life in state prison.

With the release of water into the Kings River, many people will seek relief from the heat in and around Kings County waterways. The Sheriff’s Office will be actively patrolling the Kings River to ensure the safety of everyone on the water. The most common violations we experience are not having a Boater Card (operators license), not having the Quaga Mussel Sticker and not following the basic boating laws. The California Division of Boating and Waterways website DBW.Parks.CA.gov has links and resources for everything above. Below are direct links.

The Kings County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports regarding spam phone calls. These calls have identified “Officer Martin” or Sergeant Chris Martin” as the individual calling.

The reports vary; however, they are consistent in nature. The caller is stating they have issued summons for court appearances, child protection order violations, missed court dates, and warrants for their arrest. This is simply not true.

The Kings County Sheriff’s Office does not operate in this nature. The Sheriff’s Office will make personal contact with you in any instance named above and will not call you to obtain personal information, banking information, etc.

Should you receive such calls in the future, please contact the Kings County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 559-852-2720 to report the incident.

Sheriff Putnam, Assistant Sheriff Dodd, Commander Ferrier, and Sergeant Hunt visited Senior Deputy Putnam and Deputy Cota yesterday in Ventura County. Over the last month, both deputies have been training with their K-9’s Freddie and Blue.

Their extensive training will ensure our K-9’s are both patrol and detection certified and capable of providing our county and citizens with only the best K-9’s available. Not only will they finish their initial training, but they will also conduct weekly and monthly training during their service to the county.

Both deputies, Freddie, and Blue will graduate on Friday and will immediately start patrol. We look forward to their service and are excited to bring them to Kings County where they will serve the community for the years to come!
