We are sadend to announce the passing of Retired Battalion Chief Wayne Franks. The family and the Department will be hosting a memorial service for Chief Franks at The Armona Fire Station on May 6, 2023 at 11:00 am.

Marshall Wayne Franks, a resident of Hanford, California, passed away on April 26, 2023, at the age of 74. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born on June 6, 1948, in Los Angeles, Wayne's family moved around central and southern California before settling in Covina. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served in Germany, where his son Christopher was born in 1970. After returning to the states, Wayne began working at Gemco, where he met Winona. They were married, and Wayne started working for Graybar in the Los Angeles area before being transferred to Arizona, where they lived for a year. Wayne then moved his family back to Winona's hometown in the Central Valley, settling in Armona, where his son Adam was born in 1980. The family then moved to Hanford, CA where they stayed.

Wayne served the Kings County Fire Department for almost 27 years, becoming the first person to attend the Fire Academy and the youngest to be promoted to Captain. He ultimately rose to the rank of Battalion Chief. He retired from the fire service in 2003.

Wayne was a devoted husband to Winona for over 50 years. He is survived by his children Adam (Stephanie) and Christopher (Lyn) Franks, grandchildren Ryan, Courtney, Justin, Lyndsey, and Nick, and great-grandchildren Lincoln and Nicholas.
He is also survived by his sister Barbara (Don) Young, brother Larry Franks and sister-in-laws Mavis Mayo, Freda Wilson, Teri Franks and Dani Franks. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Marshall Wayne Franks will be remembered for his dedicated service to the Kings County Fire Department, his love for his family, and his passion for woodworking and fishing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A service and reception will be held on May 6th at 11 am at the Armona Fire Station 5, located at 11235 14th Avenue, Armona, CA 93202. The Kings County Fire Department will honor Wayne for his years of service to the community.
