Please join us in congratulating Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Rowe on his promotion to Deputy Fire Chief with the City of Hanford Fire Department.
Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Rowe began his fire service career in 1991 as a Volunteer/Paid Call Firefighter and has dedicated more than three decades to serving his community and advancing the fire service profession. He graduated from the Columbia College Firefighter Academy in 1992 and went on to earn an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Technology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fire Administration with a minor in Fire Investigation.
Chief Rowe began his career firefighter service with the Willow Oak Fire Protection District in 1995. From 1996 to 2000, he served with the Selma Fire Department before joining the City of Hanford Fire Department in October 2000 as a Firefighter. Throughout his career with the City of Hanford, he has promoted through the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, Captain, and Battalion Chief before being appointed Deputy Fire Chief in April 2026.
In addition to his operational leadership experience, Chief Rowe is a Certified Fire Investigator and currently manages the department’s Fire Investigation Team. He also oversees the design and purchasing of the department’s fire apparatus, helping ensure firefighters have safe, effective, and modern equipment to serve the community.
Chief Rowe holds numerous professional certifications, including Firefighter I & II, Company Officer, Chief Officer, and Fire Instructor. He is recognized for his commitment to firefighter safety, professional development, emergency response excellence, and mentorship of future fire service leaders.
