This Memorial Day weekend, whether you're heading to the coast, the mountains, or just across town, let's make smart choices.

- Drive Sober
- Buckle Up
- Stay Alert

Driving under the influence of any substance endangers yourself, your family, your friends, and everyone you share the road with.

This is a time to honor those who sacrificed for our freedom. Celebrate responsibly and keep our roads safe.

As the Memorial Day weekend approaches, the CHP is launching a statewide traffic enforcement effort to ensure everyone's safety on the roads. Starting Friday May 22 through Monday May 25, the CHP will implement a Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP).

Last year, 4 lives were lost in crashes in the Central Valley over the holiday weekend.

You can lower that number by driving sober, avoiding distractions, following speed limits, and always buckling up.

If you suspect an impaired driver, pull over safely and call 911 with the vehicle description, license plate number, location, and direction of travel. Your call could save a life.
