September has been proclaimed National Library Card Sign-Up Month by Mayor McCoy! He presented the official proclamation to several library crew members, including one of our amazing board members, at Tuesday's city council meeting. We were also pleased to have a representative from our Friends of the Library group in the audience. We are grateful and honored to have this as part of our month-long celebration.

The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, libraries are fundamental to education, imagination, and opportunity, offering all types of initiatives, from early literacy programs to digital tools that support lifelong learning and personal growth;

WHEREAS, libraries provide access to everyone, serving as inclusive and accessible community centers that connect people across cultures, generations, and experiences;

WHEREAS, libraries preserve collections and create programs that reflect the diversity of the populations they serve, ensuring equitable access to information, technology, and culture for all;

WHEREAS, libraries help navigate life’s challenges by providing reliable information, digital access, job search support, and connections to essential services;

WHEREAS, libraries contribute to building thriving local economies by equipping job seekers, entrepreneurs, students, and creators with tools and training to succeed;

WHEREAS, in times of both crisis and calm, libraries and their staff remain steadfast in supporting and strengthening their communities;

WHEREAS, library resources help households save money, reduce waste, and make sustainable choices, all through the simple power of a shared public good;

WHEREAS, a library card provides a front-row seat to all their offerings, from books and technology to lifelong learning and imagination;

WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, and library workers across the country are joining together to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month with the theme "A library card hits all the right notes!";

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Darrell McCoy, mayor of Hannibal, do hereby proclaim September 2026 as Library Card Sign-Up Month in Hannibal, Missouri, and encourage all residents to "hit the right note" and sign up for a library card.

Happy September! We love September for so many reasons, but mostly because it's Library Card Sign-Up Month! We're excited to celebrate this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with a special storytime for all ages. We'll read the book "Mei Mei The Bunny" by Laufey and enjoy a performance by violin students of the Hannibal Music Academy & Performance Hall, Hannibal, MO .

Reminder: The library is open today 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. There is no Family Fun Time this morning, but we are looking forward to next Saturday! We will be kicking off Library Card Sign-up Month with a very special Family Fun Time. We're going to read "Mei Mei The Bunny" written by ALA spokesperson, award-winning musician Laufey. After the book, we will enjoy a violin performance by students of the Music Academy & Performance Hall, Hannibal, MO . You don't want to miss it!
