Armstrong Resisting Arrest

On May 30, 2026, Hannibal Police responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of Oak Street. Officers found Sydney Armstrong, 20, of Hannibal, standing in the roadway and blocking a vehicle. After being told she was under arrest, she resisted and kicked one of the officers. She was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail on a 24‑hour hold.

Later that day, a warrant was issued in the 10th Judicial Circuit of Marion County charging her with Resisting Arrest and Third-Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. Bond was set at $8,500 cash or surety.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Today we celebrated Chief Jacob Nacke’s retirement from the Hannibal Police Department.

After years of dedicated service to our community, he’s stepping into a new and exciting chapter. He will truly be missed, but we couldn’t be happier for him as he begins his next adventure.

Harnett Media Release

On Monday May 18, 2026, the 10th Judicial Circuit of Marion County issued a warrant for 26-year-old Jydon Harnett of Hannibal. Harnett was charged with two counts of Felony Harassment and one count of Armed Criminal Action.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of May 17th, 2026 in the 100 block of North Maple Ave. Hannibal Police Officers arriving for a disturbance call located multiple witnesses reporting Harnett had approached a female victim, displayed a firearm, and forced the victim to the ground with the firearm while making continued threats to harm her. Harnett fled the scene prior to officer arrival.

On the evening of May 17th Officers located Harnett at his residence and took him into custody without incident. A firearm matching the description was recovered from the residence. Harnett remains in the Marion County Jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation, and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Today, National Law Enforcement Memorial Day, we had the honor of recognizing two of our fallen officers at their graves. We were able to clean headstones and lay commemorative wreaths honoring their distinguished service to our community.

We were also joined by Officer Robbin’s daughters who came from California to be with us today. We are proud to the able to honor their father’s legacy and sacrifice to our community.

Being a police officer is dangerous, but officers show up each day when called. They do it knowing the danger, and they do it because this is more than a job, it’s a calling. I am thankful for all who answered the call and have made sacrifices to make our community a better place.

🇺🇸 National Police Week 🇺🇸

Today, the Hannibal Police Department honors the service and sacrifice of one of our fallen heroes — Patrolman Edward “Eddie” Robbins.

End of Watch: May 2, 1968

On May 2, 1968, Patrolman Robbins was serving the community he loved when he attempted to stop a speeding vehicle. When the driver refused to stop, he initiated a pursuit. During that pursuit, his patrol vehicle crashed, and he was tragically killed in the line of duty.

Patrolman Robbins was just 32 years old and had served with the Hannibal Police Department for nearly four years. He was a United States Air Force veteran and left behind his wife and two daughters.

His sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day in service to others. Even decades later, his courage and dedication continue to be remembered and honored.

🇺🇸 National Police Week 🇺🇸

Today, we honor and remember one of Hannibal’s fallen heroes — Police Officer Henry Bullinger.
End of Watch: August 4, 1867

On August 3, 1867, Officer Bullinger bravely stepped in to stop a violent street altercation. In the process, he was knocked to the ground and fatally stabbed. He passed away the following day from his injuries.

At 45 years old, Officer Bullinger made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the citizens of Hannibal.

Over 150 years later, his courage and dedication continue to be remembered. His name stands among Missouri’s fallen officers — a lasting symbol of selfless service and sacrifice.

🇺🇸 National Police Week - Honoring the Fallen- 🇺🇸

During this National Police Week, the Hannibal Police Department honors the life and sacrifice of Detective Lieutenant Milford Malchus Trail, who gave his life in the line of duty on January 26, 1965.
Lieutenant Trail served the Hannibal community with dedication for over 21 years, joining the department in April 1943.

On January 26th 1965, Lt. Trail and Captain Charles Webster responded to take a juvenile into custody who had escaped from the State Training School in Boonville. During the booking process, a physical struggle occurred. Shortly afterward, Lt. Trail became ill and was transported for medical care. He was later pronounced deceased at approximately 2:20 p.m., having suffered a heart attack in the line of duty.

Lt. Trail was 59 years old and was survived by his wife, Margaret.

🇺🇸 National Police Week – Honoring a Fallen Hero 🇺🇸

During National Police Week, we honor and remember the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

Today, we pause to remember Patrolman John P. McGonigal of the Hannibal Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty on June 13, 1916, at just 33 years old.

Patrolman McGonigal had served the citizens of Hannibal for approximately one year when he was mortally wounded while investigating a suspicious individual in downtown Hannibal. He later succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind his wife and a grieving community.

Patrolman McGonigal is laid to rest in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Hannibal, and his sacrifice is permanently honored on the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial.

As we remember Patrolman McGonigal, we also honor all fallen officers—past and present—who answered the call to serve with courage, integrity, and selflessness.
