A trip to National Night Out 2026 proved to be worthwhile for Tim Coster. Tim was the lucky winner of HAVFR Home Safety free raffle! He selected the Fire Blanket as his prize for stopping by our display and chatting with our members. Congratulations Tim and remember to ‘Be Safe’ in all that you do. Thank you for supporting the Volunteers of HAFR serving Hanover Boro and Penn Township.

HAVFR life member, Mr. Harold J. Bair, passed May 23,2026. He was the father of Michael Bair and father in law of Candy Bair. As per their family request, a Memorial gathering was held on July13,2026 at Station 2.
Participating were President Jeff Spielman, Fire Police Captain Rich Angel Jr., Treasurer Maynard Becker and member George Zimmerman.

We thank all of our mutual aid partners from Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services, United Hook & Ladder, Porters Volunteer Fire Company, and Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Company, who provided standby coverage to Hanover Borough and Penn Township so that our firefighters could pay tribute to Commissioner Roth.

We also give our thanks to the Gettysburg Fire Company for joining us with Truck 1 to remember Commissioner Roth's service to Gettysburg, to all of the fire police agencies that assisted with traffic control, to our partners at Hanover Borough Police Department and Penn Township Police Department, and to all of the members of our extended community that joined us in remembering his service.

All of us here at Hanover Area Fire & Rescue mourn the unexpected loss of Tommy Hull, who first joined our volunteer company as a member of the Parkville Fire Company of Penn Township in 2004 and went on to become a life member of our department.

The Parkville Volunteer Fire Company later merged into the Penn Township Volunteer Emergency Services in 2007, which then became part of Hanover Area Fire & Rescue in 2018.

After coming to Parkville in 2004, Hull built a career in the emergency medical services, joining UPMC's Community Life Team EMS and most recently serving with First Capital EMS as an Advanced EMT.

Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues during this difficult time.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of AEMT Thomas "Tommy" Hull.

Tommy's passing has come as a tremendous shock to everyone who knew him. Although he had been with First Capital EMS for less than a year, his kindness, dedication, and passion for serving others left a lasting impression on our organization.

Prior to joining First Capital EMS, Tommy proudly served with our mutual aid partners at LifeTeam EMS's York Division. While the patch on his sleeve changed, the friendships and bonds he built over the years never did. Tommy was, and always will be, a valued member of the York County EMS family.

Last evening, members of First Capital EMS and LifeTeam EMS came together to share memories, support one another, and honor Tommy's life. It was a reminder that while we may serve under different names, we are one EMS community.

Please keep Tommy's family, friends, and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Tommy. Thank you for your service, your friendship, and the lives you touched. You will never be forgotten. 💙🖤

The Snacktown Street Fair 2026 was recently held in downtown Hanover. That means that the Volunteers of Hanover Area Fire & Rescue were there offering a FREE drawing for choice of a Fire Extinguisher, First Aid kit or a Fire Blanket. Darlene Kime stopped by and was the lucky winner of the Fire Extinguisher! She also had a mini tour of Station 2 that she enjoyed. Congratulations Darlene!

A big congratulations to Hanover Area Fire & Rescue volunteer firefighter/EMT Gabe Cromer on graduating from the 128th Recruit Class of the Baltimore County Fire Department on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

In his service as a volunteer firefighter/EMT with Hanover Area Fire & Rescue, Gabe Cromer was previously awarded the Medal of Merit for his actions in the successful rescue of a victim trapped inside of a working house fire in Penn Township.

The Cromer family has had an extensive impact on our Hanover area fire service, with Gabe's grandfather, Jan Cromer, serving as the first combined Hanover Borough and Penn Township fire chief. Gabe's father, Jason, has served our company as a prior volunteer assistant chief, while Gabe's brother, Brady, received the Medal of Valor in his service for our company. Gabe, who will be assigned to Towson Station 1 on "B" Shift, joins his father and brother on the job, as they serve as a career fire lieutenant and as a career firefighter/EMT in Baltimore County.

Hanover Area Fire & Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Wysocki and volunteer firefighter/EMT Jones were honored to be in attendance on Saturday afternoon as Cromer graduated.

It is with profound sadness that the Hanover Area Fire & Rescue Commission mourns the unexpected passing of Fire Commissioner James Roth this afternoon.

Commissioner Roth was a true icon of the fire service whose dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to this organization and the community he loved have left an immeasurable legacy. His impact will continue to be felt for generations of firefighters, EMS providers, and the citizens we are honored to serve.

During this incredibly difficult time, we respectfully ask that everyone afford the Roth family the privacy and space they need as they navigate this tremendous loss. Funeral arrangements and service details will be shared as they become available.
