🚲E-Bikes Are Taking Off…Make Sure You Know the Rules Before You Ride! ⚡

Thinking about hopping on an e-bike this weekend? You’re definitely not alone! E-bikes are becoming more popular all across Minnesota – and with more riders comes the importance of knowing what you’re riding and where you can ride it.

Not all “e-bikes” are created equal! Depending on the bike’s speed and motor power, it may fall into a different category with different requirements for things like age, helmets, driver’s licenses, registration and where you can ride.

👉Take a quick look at the handy guide from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office below. It’s a great way to make sure you and your e-bike are on the right track before you hit the road.

Candidate Filings~

The City of Hanover has two City Council Seats up for election in 2026. If you are interested in joining our City Council, you will need to come into City Hall and file before 5 pm on July 28, 2026.

We will will be open until 5 pm on July 28, 2026 for Candidate Filing and 5 pm on Thursday July 30th for Candidate withdrawals.

Bridge Update from the Mayor:

I hope you all are having a great summer! It’s hard to believe it is half over already!

The council members and I have all heard questions of “What is going on with the bridge?”, so I wanted to give you an update on what is happening.

During a routine inspection with the county, the bridge was found to have some immediate structural issues (missing and cracked pins caps) that required the bridge to be closed to ensure the safety of all of our residents and visitors that use the bridge. Tuesday, the council approved up to $50,000 to complete immediate repairs to help safeguard the structural integrity of the bridge. Detail was shared in the council meeting agenda for Tuesday night, posted on the Hanover website. However, this is just the first step. A more thorough inspection and repair will need to be completed before we open it back up to the public. We are working with the county and state on next steps and timing of the project. Trust us, we want it open just as much as you do!

As our bridge is a Historical Monument, we are working with the county and state to ensure that it is repaired to maintain its historical designation. There is process and checklists that we must follow. We ask for your patience as we take the steps to repair the bridge and is updated in the right way to support long term use and the historical nature of it.

We are happy to provide updates as we have them so you all are up to speed on when we can all enjoy the bridge!
