Town of Hanover Water Restriction Emergency
June 15, 2026

The levels in our water tanks are critically low. This is as low as they have been in at least the last 15 years. Use is outpacing our ability to supply water; our pumps are running 24/7, increasing the likelihood of equipment failure.

We ask everyone to do all they can to be part of the solution and reduce water use as much as possible.

Starting tonight, June 16, 2026, at MIDNIGHT (12:00 am), the Hanover Water Department will be actively monitoring irrigation usage, and we will cite violators with fines and post the addresses of violators on Hanover's website.

We hope this provides everyone with a reasonable opportunity to turn off their irrigation systems and reduce non-essential water use.

The current situation is serious and requires immediate attention. These measures are being put in place to ensure adequate fire protection and that essential household needs can be met.

These actions are intended to safeguard public safety, maintain system reliability, and preserve our limited water resources during this period of concern. We appreciate the community's cooperation and commitment to helping us address this challenge.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation with these water-use restrictions. By working together and complying with these measures, we can help preserve and maintain the reliability of our water system for the entire community. If conservation goals are not met, additional restrictions or mandatory measures may be necessary in the future.

Tonight's Select Board meeting (Hanover-MA.gov/SB), scheduled for 6:30 pm, will provide a forum to further address this situation.

Today, 82 years ago, one of the worst tragedies in US Military history took place. The death toll that day is staggering, to say the least. We never forget those that were led to their sentence on that fateful day in 1944.

I first found out about the situation regarding Jaden Booker on December 17, 2025. Spurring from the incident of this Service Member, the district of Hanover/Hanson Veterans Services was formed.

During the time since, I have had conversations with his widow Jo’Niyah Booker, also a Service Member. She is a strong individual that is finding herself healing through continued service. Jo’Niyah has become a strong advocate for Mental Health as well as advocating for Surviving Spouses. Through this advocacy, and the process of healing, she has started this scholarship fund.

You can apply through the link provided. If you are not applying, please consider donating as the money goes directly to high school students to continue their academic paths.

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of planning, curveballs, disappointments and triumphs. I have had the support of Veterans, residents, the municipalities that I serve under, the Commonwealth, the country, private companies and the VA itself during this unexpected busy time.

While the weather kept us from having the parade this year for multiple reasons including safety, both Hanover, Massachusetts & Town of Hanson, MA, as well as the American Legion Post 149 Hanover, MA pushed forward with our Remembrance Ceremonies. A pretty big turnout despite the entertainment of a parade.

This is what community does. We support each other because it’s the right thing to do. For this past two weeks, we have all come together in honor of those who have come and gone before us. For my colleagues that take care of Veterans everyday, Memorial Day is everyday. Not because we have to. We signed up to do this job. And we stay doing this job because it is our passion to do this at the level we take it to. All of the VSOs I work with, are top notch. We work together and support each other, in every aspect.

Along with the support I mentioned, I have a great team in the Hanson Patriotic Observance Committee. When I first was introduced, we had two solid members of the community that were volunteers (David Beauvais & Marcus Linn). Since then, we gained another member (Joe Campbell) and have a few more requests to fill the final seats of the five total on the committee. Organization is being established to ensure the future of planning community events. Keeping traditions that have been held for years while we make some improvements to keep the community coming together more and more.

I have plenty to say about those that have been there and supported my office. Not just the past couple of weeks, but since I started. But, there is too many to state individual reasons. They see what is possible with Veterans Services. While the position is held by one person, a community that stands behind it, is what makes it a success.

Thank you to Rory O’Connor of Hanover High School Bands for providing Taps at all locations in Hanover. Graham Allen of the Troop 38 and Andrew Palmer of Hanover Cub Scout Pack 37 for volunteering at the ceremony itself. US Navy Retired Master Chief Chuck Merritt III for dawning your uniform every year to lay the wreath at the memorial. You stand guard proudly, continue to serve with honor and answer the call to support your community.

And, to the Hanson Athletic Association for their generosity to use their facility. In short time, they stepped up and gave us a place to bring the community together for some food, a meet & greet for myself with those I serve, and what appears to be a great partnership in support of our Veterans. I am looking forward to the future.

More thanks provided in the comment section. I truly apologize if I missed anyone. I have dealt with so many people that have helped that it’s hard to keep track. More pics to come and will do my best to tag those I missed.

Here’s to the future of honoring & preserving the memory of our Fallen Service Members, by serving the ones that are still with us.
