The Jefferson County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a subdivision of government that is charged by Indiana State law (IC 14-32-5) to assist in conserving the soil and water resources of the land occupiers. The SWCD was organized on May 16, 1949 and includes approximately 234,250 acres in Jefferson County. The Board of Supervisors consists of five residents of the county, two appointe

d and three elected. The Indiana State Soil Conservation Board upon recommendation of the Jefferson County SWCD Board of Supervisors appoints the two appointed persons. The three other members of the Board of Supervisors are elected at an annual business meeting held the first Monday in February of each year.
