Last month, Officers of the Massachusetts National Guard attended the annual TAG OPD (The Adjutant General's Officer Professional Development) meeting. During this, General Gary Keefe spoke to Soldiers and Airmen on the importance of our organization - The National Guard Association of Massachusetts.

The focus on the discussion was to explain how we, NGAMA, are able to bring about change to not only our own state of Massachusetts, but also nationwide.

Our Officers in The Massachusetts National Guard are able to enact real change within our organization and policy, with the help of NGAMA. Soldiers learned how they could submit their thoughts and make recommendations on policies that may affect Massachusetts Guardsmen, and even on the national scale.

To learn more about the Tag OPD and what it offered to Soldiers, follow the link below to read The Minuteman's "Final Word" - where CPT David Schwab discusses in depth the benefits of this event partnered with NGAMA.

Maj. Gen. Philip G. Killey 1941-2026

NGAUS has learned that retired Maj. Gen. Philip G. Killey passed away last night in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was 84. Killey was the Adjutant General of South Dakota from 1987 to 1988, before serving as the Director of the Air National Guard from 1988 to 1994. He then became the first Guardsman to command 1st Air Force, Air Combat Command and the Continental United States North American Aerospace Defense Command Region at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, from 1994 to 1998. He completed his nearly 40-year military career with a second term as Adjutant General of South Dakota from 1998 to 2003.

He began his military career as an Air Force F-4 fighter pilot, flying 129 combat missions in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He amassed 6,500 flight hours during his career.

“General Killey was one of the original architects of today’s Air National Guard,” said retired Maj. Gen. Francis M. McGinn, the association president. “The Air National Guard that now contributes every day to Air Force worldwide operations is his legacy. The Guard and our Nation are forever in his debt.”
