TRAFFIC ALERT – Jefferson Highway

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will be performing storm drain cleaning today and tomorrow along Jefferson Highway.
Work Area: 6500 block of Jefferson Highway to Hickory Avenue, eastbound.
During the work, Jefferson Highway will be reduced to one lane of traffic in the affected area. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to make alternate driving plans and avoid the area if possible.
Please use caution around the work crews, slow down, and allow yourself a little extra time if you must travel through the area.
The Harahan Police Department appreciates everyone's patience and cooperation while this important drainage maintenance is completed.

Back to School – Let's Have a Safe Start!

School is back in session this Friday in Jefferson Parish, and that means our school zones will once again be filled with students, parents, school buses, and crossing guards.
Chief Ed Lepre and the Harahan Police Department ask everyone to do their part to help keep our children safe by slowing down, staying alert, and putting distractions aside while driving through school zones.
Remember, Louisiana's new hands-free driving law is in effect. Please keep your cell phone out of your hands while driving, especially in school zones where children can enter the roadway unexpectedly.
Throughout the school year, Harahan Police officers will be present in our school zones to help keep traffic moving safely and remind motorists to obey the law.
As Chief Lepre likes to say, "We'd much rather see you wave as you drive by than have to meet you at your window."
Let's work together to give our students a safe and successful start to the new school year.

Tropical Storm Bertha Reminder

The Harahan Police Department encourages everyone to remain weather-aware as Tropical Storm Bertha moves through the Gulf Coast region.
The heaviest rainfall is currently expected to remain closer to the coast. However, Harahan may experience periods of winds and rain. Now is a good time to take a few simple precautions:
• Continue monitoring local weather reports and official updates• Check catch basins and storm drains near your property, and safely remove debris that could restrict drainage• Charge phones and other essential devices
Keeping drains clear can help rainwater move more efficiently and reduce the possibility of street flooding.
Please stay informed, use caution during periods of heavy rain, and continue following updates from trusted weather and emergency management sources.
The Harahan Police Department is monitoring the storm and will be available where needed.

The Harahan Police Department and Chief Ed Lepre extend our deepest condolences to the United States Marshals Service following the tragic loss of a Deputy U.S. Marshal who was killed in the line of duty on Monday in Alexandria.

We also keep the deputy's family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers in our thoughts and prayers as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

Every day, law enforcement officers place themselves in harm's way to protect and serve their communities. We honor the courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice of this fallen Deputy U.S. Marshal.

The Harahan Police Department stands in solidarity with our federal law enforcement partners during this difficult time. We will never forget the sacrifice made in the service of others.

The Harahan Police Department and Chief Ed Lepre join our community in celebrating Independence Day and the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America.

For 250 years, our nation has stood as a symbol of freedom, opportunity, and resilience. As we celebrate this historic milestone, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who fought to secure our independence and those who continue to protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

We are proud to serve the City of Harahan and grateful to be part of a community that reflects the values that have strengthened our nation for two and a half centuries.

Prepare for the Upcoming Storm

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected. The Harahan Police Department encourages residents to take a few simple precautions now:

• Bring inside or secure outdoor furniture, decorations, trash cans, and other loose items that could be affected by high winds.

• Clear leaves, branches, and debris from drainage areas in front of your residence.

• Contact Harahan City Hall if you need assistance clearing debris from drains.

• Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, and never drive through flooded roadways.

Please check on your neighbors, especially anyone who may need additional assistance.

Contact the Harahan Police Department or Harahan City Hall if assistance is needed.

Be prepared. Stay safe. Look out for your neighbors.
