Harahan Hurricane Preparedness Meeting Held at HPD EOC

Today, Chief Ed Lepre and the Harahan Police Department hosted a Hurricane Season preparedness meeting at the HPD Emergency Operations Center (EOC). GOHSEP Region 1 Coordinator Meg DeJean, Jefferson Parish Emergency Operations Director Ray Guedry, Jefferson Parish EOC Chris Trosclair, Kenner EOC Jon Cryer, and representatives from local government, schools, healthcare facilities, community partners, and Jefferson Parish agencies came together to discuss planning, coordination, and readiness for the 2026 hurricane season.

Chief Lepre would like to personally thank everyone who attended and contributed to today’s meeting. Strong partnerships and communication are critical during emergencies, and meetings like this help ensure Harahan is prepared before a storm ever approaches.

Topics discussed included:
Emergency response coordination
Generators, fuel, and supply planning
Special needs and senior citizen assistance
Evacuation and shelter planning
Public communications and emergency alerts
Debris removal and recovery operations

Chief Lepre reminds residents that personal preparedness is just as important as city preparedness.

Now is the time before a storm enters the Gulf to:
Review your hurricane plan
Prepare emergency supplies, food, water, and medications
Fuel vehicles and generators safely
Charge phones and backup batteries
Check on elderly family members and neighbors
Plan ahead for pets and special medical needs

Residents are encouraged to download the Harahan Police Department app for updates, notifications, and important emergency information.

Residents should also sign up for JP Alerts by texting JPALERT to 888777 to receive emergency notifications from Jefferson Parish.

Chief Lepre stated, “Preparedness starts long before a storm enters the Gulf. Working together as a community helps keep Harahan safe, informed, and ready.”

Thank you to everyone who continues working together to protect the City of Harahan during hurricane season.

Memorial Day 2026

This Memorial Day, the Harahan Police Department and Chief Ed Lepre pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer or the reason for a long weekend. It is a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We ask our community to join us in reflecting on the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of our fallen heroes, and to keep their families and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.

From all of us at the Harahan Police Department, thank you to all who have served, and may we never forget those who gave everything for our country.

God bless our fallen heroes, their families, and the United States of America.
