Already into the books. Day 1 of the Fire Academy. Our recruits are studying Hazardous Material Awareness skills. This academy will go on for the next 5 months covering Hazardous Material Operations, Firefighter I, and II, Pump Operations, Aerial Operations, and Emergency Medical Responder. Throughout the academy they will also work on physical fitness. You can get a glimpse of our guys working hard at the Harahan Recreation Department as they were gracious enough to allow us to set up a class room as our station is still in the process of waiting on a FEMA declaration from IDA. We will be using the walking track for physical fitness and the parking area and open field for practical applications. These recruits will also be brought to the Jefferson Parish Fire Training Facility to do live burns, and other practical skills. If you see these guys out working please cheer them on. It’s going to be a hot summer and they’ll need all the encouragement they can get. We are confident that they’ll be successful and work hard for you in the future. 🚒 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
