🚨STATEWIDE MANHUNT FOR MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING WARM SPRINGS OFFICER WHO ARRESTED HIM DAYS EARLIER

📍Warm Springs, Georgia

A statewide manhunt is underway for a 23-year-old man accused of killing a Warm Springs Police Officer who had arrested him just days earlier.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued a Blue Alert for Jimmy Steverson following the death of Sgt. Chris Fisher.

The GBI said Fisher was killed at approximately 11:57 p.m. Tuesday in Warm Springs. The BOLO sent out to surrounding agencies indicated Sgt. Fisher was killed in a drive-by shooting indicating this was a targeted attack.

Steverson is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Booking records provided by the Meriwether County Government show Fisher arrested and transported Steverson to jail on Aug. 27.

Steverson was booked early Aug. 28 on felony charges of possession, manufacture or distribution of ma*****na; possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempted commission of a felony; and obstruction of a law enforcement officer through threats or violence.

The records list Sgt. Fisher was both the arresting and transporting officer.

Steverson bonded out of jail at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 28, less than 14 hours after he was booked. The three bonds totaled $10,000.

Authorities said Steverson was last seen in Warm Springs at the time Sgt. Fisher was killed. He was wearing a black T-shirt and black gym shorts.

Steverson was believed to be driving a black 2026 Chevrolet Silverado.

Gov. Brian Kemp released a statement this morning mourning Fisher’s death.

“Marty, the girls, and I are deeply saddened this morning by the news that Officer Chris Fisher has been killed,” Kemp said. “This is a tragic reminder of the dangers law enforcement face on a daily basis in service to their communities.”

Kemp asked Georgians to pray for Fisher’s family and fellow officers.

Georgia POST records show Sgt. Fisher began his public safety career as a jail officer with the Heard County Sheriff’s Office in November 2010. He later returned to the agency in 2017 before joining the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in July 2018.

Sgt. Fisher completed basic law enforcement training in September 2019 and served as a Fayette County deputy and investigator.

POST records indicate he voluntarily resigned later that month and briefly joined the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, where he was promoted to sergeant in August 2025.

Fisher joined the Warm Springs Police Department as an officer May 18, 2026. He was promoted to sergeant July 7, less than two months before his death.

His POST profile listed him in good standing, with no state sanctions or investigations. Fisher completed more than 1,500 hours of training during his career, including extensive SWAT, active-shooter response, de-escalation, fi****ms and tactical medical training.

Anyone who sees Steverson or the Silverado should not approach him. Authorities are urging people to take immediate precautions and call 911.

The mugshot attached is the one listed on his booking report from his recent arrest.

⚠️ FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLIC RELEASE ⚠️

The Senoia Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred yesterday, Sunday, August 16, 2026, at around 10:00 PM in the area of Travis Street in between Clark Street and Bridge Street. Along with asking our citizens for any information that maybe relevant to the investigation, we have a strong obligation to keep you informed. A Senoia resident was exercise walking in the area when she was grabbed from behind by a male subject who attempted to commit an act of sexual assault.

Thankfully this incredibly resilient person was able to fight free from the attacker who then fled the scene. We are asking for the public’s help!

If you were in the area of downtown, Senoia Post Office, RR Tracks, Gin Street Properties and saw anything you thought was odd or suspicious around this time or just prior to, please reach out to us.

You can contact Det. Lt. James McCue at (770) 599-3256, Ext. 103 or email [email protected].

The department is all hands-on deck for this investigation and using every available resource at our disposal. In the meantime, we encourage citizens who are out past dark either walking, exercising etc. to have a partner and/or take reasonable precautions to protect yourself if necessary.
