The Niigaandiwin Education Department to excited to announce the IMLS Cultural Apprenticeship Program. This is a community-based effort to help preserve and pass on Odawa knowledge, skills, and traditions to the next generation. Through the program, apprentices are matched with cultural knowledge keepers for hands-on learning rooted in mentorship, seasonal teachings, and cultural practice. Apprentices will have the opportunity to learn directly from elders and skilled community members in areas such as traditional arts, land-based knowledge, music, language, foodways, and/or regalia. The program is designed to strengthen cultural identity, support intergenerational learning, and ensure that important teachings continue for future generations.

This grant is paid for by the IMLS Enhancement grant. Apprenticeships could last anywhere from 1 year -6 months depending on the traditional knowledge taught and shared. The program will provide financial support to ensure its success, including funding for cultural knowledge keeper, possible youth apprentice stipends, and project supplies needed for instruction, material gathering, and hands-on learning.

Miigwech for you time!
