A HUGE thank you to Clarina Howard Nichols Center for hosting the Take Back The Night event! It was truly incredible to be part of. ✊👖🩵

To begin folks made posters against s*xual violence, loaded up with pins and papers with the chant. People of various ages, genders, backgrounds and races joined together. Sexual violence has no "type," it affects all demographics. We gathered together and began walking up the street chanting, and we were certainly seen and heard. Cars and pedestrians stopped what they were doing to see what all the commotion was about, and then came the thumbs ups and encouraging honking!

The group protested s*xual violence all the way up to the gazebo, where folks spoke about the importance of the night and shared their hopes for a safer future! We heard about how needed this movement is, and how big it is that we were doing this. Our very own Tonda even read a poem she had written, which was very powerful.

After hearing people speak, it was time to check out the shirts made by survivors. The shirts are representing that clothing never equals consent, and this issue affects our community as a whole.

"However we dress, wherever we go: yes means yes and no means no"

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. 🩵 Many abusers choose to use some form of s*xual abuse in order to hurt or control a partner, but it’s often the least discussed form of abuse — especially if a victim is made to feel embarrassed or ashamed, or if they were taught that what they’re experiencing is “normal.”

Sexual abuse can be committed with outright physical force or violence, and it can also be committed with pressure, threats, and coercion. Being able to safely and freely consent to s*x (and to anything else!) is an essential part of any healthy relationship.

Physically forcing you to have s*x, or making you feel like you can’t say “no.” Forcing you to participate in demeaning or degrading s*xual acts without your consent. Forcing you to have s*x with other partners. Tampering with or refusing to use contraception. Taking or sharing intimate photos or videos of you without consent." NNEDV logo in bottom right. ☀️🌅👖🧍‍♀️🩵Today is Denim Day, a global movement where wearing denim becomes a statement against s*xual violence and victim‑blaming. The campaign began after a survivor’s case was dismissed because her jeans were considered “too tight,” implying consent. That ruling sparked outrage — and a tradition of solidarity that continues today.

By wearing denim, we’re saying loud and clear: Clothing is never an invitation. Survivors deserve to be believed, supported, and protected.

Let’s use today to raise awareness, challenge harmful myths, and stand with survivors everywhere. ❤️‍🩹🌻🫶👖🩵

Ever wonder why some people don't speak up about things that happend to them? Or why they finally spoke about it many years later, instead of right after it happened? This is a quick read explaining the main reasons some people stay quiet.
