** Attention Boaters **

Low water near Hardy Ford Boat Launch is extremely hazardous!

Last night, the Hardy Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched along with SML Marine Fire & Rescue for a watercraft emergency with 2 boating occupants grounded in the shallow water 125 yards away from the Hardy Ford Boat Launch. Chief 12 established command with Engine12 and began working with the volunteer responders on multiple attempts to free the boat. The deep mud impeded attempts to reach the boat from the shore and ropes were deployed from the shore to the boat for further efforts. Company 11 arrived with 3 personnel and launched a watercraft to assist from the water. After attempts to free the boat using the Co11 watercraft were unsuccessful, Utility12 was dispatched to the far shore where joint efforts were able to help pull the stuck boat back towards the channel to where Co11 could successfully tow it back to the boat launch.

At their meeting last week, the Bedford County Board of Supervisors proclaimed May 17-23, 2026, as National EMS Week, recognizing the vital public service our EMS personnel provide 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Throughout this week, follow along with us here on Facebook as we highlight the volunteer EMS agencies in Bedford County and show our gratitude to our dedicated EMS professionals.

πŸ”₯ 4 p.m. Burning Law takes effect Sunday πŸ”₯

Virginia’s annual spring burning restrictions will be in effect February 15 through April 30 to help prevent wildfires during peak fire season.

Here’s what you need to know:

🚫 No open-air burning between midnight and 4 p.m.
🌲 Applies to fires within 300 feet of wooded areas or dry grass
βœ… Burning is permitted from 4 p.m. to midnight with the proper safety precautions
βš–οΈ Violations may result in a Class 3 misdemeanor and fines

These seasonal restrictions are designed to reduce the risk of wildfires as warmer, windier conditions increase fire danger across the Commonwealth.

Learn more about the 4 p.m. burning law here: https://dof.virginia.gov/wildland-prescribed-fire/fire-laws/4-pm-burning-law/
