🇺🇸🖤❤️💚 Celebrating Juneteenth Across Bell County ❤️💚🖤🇺🇸
This week, communities across Bell County will gather to celebrate Juneteenth, a holiday with deep roots in Texas history and profound significance for our nation.
On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved people in Texas finally learned of their freedom when Union troops arrived in Galveston. Juneteenth commemorates that day and serves as both a celebration of freedom and a reminder that the work of building a more just and equitable society continues.
As Texans, we can take pride in the role our state played in giving birth to this historic observance, which has grown from local community celebrations to a federal holiday recognized across the nation. Juneteenth reflects the enduring values of freedom, resilience, civic engagement, and hope.
The Bell County Democratic Party is proud to honor the generations of Black Texans who fought for freedom, voting rights, civil rights, educational opportunity, and economic justice. We also recognize and thank the many local activists, organizers, faith leaders, educators, elected officials, and community advocates who continue that work today throughout Bell County and Central Texas.
Juneteenth is not only a time to reflect on our history—it is a time to celebrate culture, strengthen community, and recommit ourselves to the promise that liberty and opportunity belong to everyone.
