A huge shout-out to Tidewater Welding of Washington, NC, for building our new forcible entry door training prop! The craftsmanship and attention to detail are outstanding. This prop will provide our firefighters with realistic, hands-on training for years to come and help us sharpen the skills that matter most when lives are on the line. We are so appreciative of the calls and concern regarding the black smoke coming from the chimney at the school. We have been in contact with maintenance who has assured us that it is related to the boiler that runs the dehumidifier, and is completely safe. We are so lucky to have so many people looking out for our sweet school!❤️

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of former Fire Chief and Board Chairman Fred Schramm, who led Harkers Island Fire & Rescue from the early 90's to 2025. Chief Schramm dedicated 30+ years of his life to protecting the Harkers Island community.

His legacy of leadership, courage, and dedication will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him during his long and distinguished career.
