One opportunity can change everything.

For Savannah Hill, a 2026 graduate of Harlan County High School, Prosper Appalachia helped her discover a passion for education through a work-based learning placement at Wallins Elementary School. By working alongside teachers and students, Savannah gained valuable hands-on experience and a new appreciation for the impact educators make every day.

“Before I started the program, I wasn’t even really thinking about going into education, but I’m so glad I did,” Savannah said.

Now, teaching is her top career choice, and she’s excited about the possibility of giving back to the same community that helped shape her.
We’re proud to see students like Savannah using Prosper Appalachia to explore careers, gain real-world experience, and build their futures right here in Eastern Kentucky.

Final Day of Gear Up Summer Camp – Mad Scientist! 🧪🔬

Students ended Gear Up Summer Camp with a day full of exciting science experiments and hands-on learning!

Activities included:
• Exploring the unique properties of Oobleck
• Creating Slime
• Investigating Melting, Vaporization, and Sublimation
• Observing Spontaneous Combustion
• Conducting Chemical Reactions
• Making delicious Ice Cream using dry ice

Through these exciting experiments students explored scientific concepts, learned about states of matter, physical and chemical changes, asked questions, and discovered how science can be both educational and fun. It was a fun-filled finale that encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of science!

Thank you to all of our students for making this year’s Gear Up Summer Camp a success! A special thank to you the Challenger Learning Center-Ky in Hazard for assisting us this week to make our summer camp fun and exciting!

Day 2 of Gear Up Summer Camp: LEGO SPIKE Robotics! 🤖

Students from across the county enjoyed another exciting day at Gear Up Summer Camp as they explored engineering, problem-solving, and computer programming using LEGO SPIKE robots.

Campers learned how to code their robots using sensors and direct commands, then tested their creations through a variety of hands-on challenges. Throughout the day, students strengthened their engineering skills while working collaboratively to design, build, and program their robots.

There’s still time to join us for the final day of camp tomorrow - Mad Scientist—we’d love to see you there!
