As of Wednesday June 17th, the Courthouse basement doors will be OPEN! Recorder’s office is open as of tomorrow without appointments. If you feel more comfortable making an appointment, that is perfectly fine. We are still accepting mail, email, drop box, phone calls and electronic submission which has kept us doing business as usual for the last 3 months. We ask that you follow the COVID-19 Guidelines. If you have symptoms or are feeling sick, please do not come into the office. If you’ve been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with Corona Virus, please do not come into the office for 14 days. It is suggested everyone wear a mask. If you come to our office and we have a customer, please wait in the hallway to distance yourself. We are excited to be OPEN and are READY TO SERVE!

It’s that time of year again!! Renewal reminder cards will be going in the mail today for those of you who own an ATV, ORV, ORM, or Snowmobile.

If you have an ORV and have purchased the county user permit in the past, you may either stop in the office with your proof of insurance OR if you are renewing by mail, include a copy of your insurance papers along with $25 and we will mail the decal for the upcoming year along with your renewal. Your current county user permit decal does not expire until December 31, 2019.

All renewals are due by December 31, 2019 to avoid the $5.00 late penalty. If your unit is used strictly for farm purposes only, you do not need to renew.

Boat renewals were also due this year. If you haven’t done so, please stop in and we can get you brought up to date for the next 3 years!

Also, we would like to start sending reminder emails in the future rather than the postcards. If you are renewing by mail, we would greatly appreciate it if you would include your email address. Thank you!

Thank you to those who signed my petition. I have filed my papers to run for re-election! I truly love coming to work every day and I have enjoyed serving the residents of Shelby County over the past four years. I look forward to continuing to implement new technologies to make our office more accurate and efficient which will move us to the next generation of public recording. I am so grateful for your trust and support. If re-elected, I will work to streamline operations within the Recorder’s Office, maintain a fiscally conservative office and bring forward programs to serve residents’ needs.

We now have access to ANY Iowa county birth record from 1990-the present year.
