The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a $7,544,544 contract to Allan Myers Inc. of Worcester, PA, to repair and resurface seven state roadways in Montgomery County. Two of the highways to undergo resurfacing are within the 147th district:

🚧Route 63 (Sumneytown Pike) in Green Lane Borough and Marlborough,
Upper Salford, and Lower Salford townships.

🚧Route 663 (Charlotte Street) in Pottstown Borough and New Hanover and Upper Pottsgrove townships.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT will resurface 19.5 miles of state highways in Montgomery County using bituminous material. The new pavements will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface. Construction on the seven roadways included in this contract will begin this summer and will finish in summer 2027.

Earlier this week I attended the North Penn Water Authority’s Annual Banquet, which brings together local township and borough officials, along with businesses alike, that consume and rely on North Penn Water. At the event, we were treated to hearing about some upcoming improvements from their new Executive Director, Mr. Keith Hass, P.E.

In 2027, their Forest Park Water Plant, which currently produces up to 43 million gallons per day, will undergo a major expansion to guarantee sufficient, reliable and excellent-quality drinking water continues to serve homes, businesses and industries in that region.

I would like to thank the entire team of professionals associated with NPWA for caring about our communities as much as you do, I look forward to seeing this project come to fruition.

Last week, I had the honor of attending a retirement celebration for my long-time friend, Dr. Frank Gallagher, who will be retiring as the superintendent for Souderton Area School District at the end of June. It was nice to see so many people come and celebrate all of Frank’s accomplishments and be there to congratulate him on the next phase of his life.

I worked alongside Dr. Gallagher for 12 years on the school board, and we went through a lot together. Standing strong to keep the schools open during Covid was a challenging time, but with the support of a resilient team around him, Dr. Gallagher overcame numerous obstacles throughout his lengthy career and became the formidable superintendent he is today. Frank has witnessed me give numerous citations over the years, but it truly was an honor to speak about his achievements and present him with an official recognition on his retirement from the Commonwealth. Wishing you a happy road ahead Frank, but your legacy will remain after 33 devoted years to our education system. Congratulations!

A nice way to end the Memorial Day Weekend was with the fine folks of Upper Salford at their township’s park for the reading of the names of their fallen veterans. As the sun was beginning to set, the Upper Salford Township Historical Society had 112 flags placed in the ground by the “Support Our Troops” students club from Souderton High School, along with their advisor and teacher Mr. Nick Chiarolanza who read the names aloud. For each veteran, a bell was rung in his or her honor. In addition, township supervisors Rick Sacks and Kevin O’Donnell joined me for this touching moment of reflection and solidarity. At the conclusion of the event, Souderton Elementary Instrumental Music Teacher, Mr. Ryan Pongras, played Taps on his trumpet. My sincere thanks to all the residents of Upper Salford Township that work together to bring this memorial tribute to fruition.

Happy Memorial Day.

Today, we honor the more than 1.1 million Americans who gave their lives in service to our country. As we gather with family and friends, may we also take a moment to remember the brave men and women whose sacrifice made our freedoms possible. 🇺🇸

Earlier this week, I was blessed to engage with so many veterans from across the district at the Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church Annual Memorial Day Service.

Being able to attend the mass was very meaningful, and the message from Monsignor Vance was tied into the famous phrase from comedic actor and long-time supporter of the troops, Mr. Bob Hope. When we think of his song, “Thanks for the Memories”, Monsignor asked us to give thanks for the veterans that allow us to freely worship, but to never forget those that fought for freedom and gave their lives in doing so. I would like to commend St. Mary’s for all their patriotic décor both within the church and outside on their grounds. It was quite a sight to see, and it looked lovely. Thank you for inviting me to be part of this special day!

Tomorrow, Sunday, May 24, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will host a Fish for Free day to allow anyone (resident or non-resident) to legally fish on all Pennsylvania waterways. No license is required, but all other fishing regulations still apply. This is a great way to expose the next generation of anglers to the outdoors.
