Firefighters are currently battling a structure fire near Glenn Way Dr. and Bass Blvd. in Harlingen. Harlingen and La Feria firefighters are on scene working to get the fire under control.

This morning, our office was honored to assist with traffic control and safety for the Run All In 5K hosted by Lifeline Heart of Worship. It was great to see such a large turnout of runners, families, and supporters from across our community. Most importantly, we’re thankful everyone had a safe and successful run. Congratulations to all the participants and thank you to Lifeline Heart of Worship, the volunteers, and everyone who helped make this event a success.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

Be careful if you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a family member who has been in an accident or needs immediate help.

A recent scam involved a female caller crying and claiming she was the recipient’s sister who had just crashed. When questioned about her name and details, a male caller got on the line and continued the story. Once specific questions were asked and it became clear the caller could not identify herself, they hung up.

If you receive a call like this:
• Stay calm.
• Ask for their full name.
• Ask questions only your family member would know.
• Do not provide personal information.
• Hang up and call your family member directly using a known phone number.
• If money is requested, treat it as a major red flag.

Scammers use fear and urgency to pressure people into acting quickly. Take a moment to verify the information before responding.

Please share this warning with friends and family, especially elderly relatives who are often targeted by these scams.

WEATHER UPDATE

According to the National Weather Service Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley, the chance for heavy rainfall will increase Tuesday and continue through Wednesday across Deep South Texas. The heaviest rainfall is expected to move from west to east across the region from Monday through Wednesday.
