At the start of the 2026–27 school year, Harlingen Explorer Post 0967 was reminded that being an Explorer means being held to a higher standard—at school, at home, and in the community.

Our Explorers put their skills to the test with some friendly competition! They competed in radio dispatch communication, raced to run three vehicle license plates using the phonetic alphabet, and tested their teamwork and leadership skills in an officer/agent-down rescue scenario.

Training, teamwork, discipline, and accountability are what make our Explorers better prepared for the future. We expect a lot from them because we know they are capable of a lot!

Keep pushing, keep learning, and keep setting the example. Proud of you, Post 0967!

The Harlingen Border Patrol Explorer Post 0967 Honor Guard had the privilege of presenting the colors at Watch Commander Garcia’s retirement luncheon.
After 26 years of dedicated service, Watch Commander Garcia is beginning a well-deserved retirement. Throughout his career, he was also a proud supporter of our Border Patrol Explorers and the young men and women who represent the program.
Thank you, Watch Commander Garcia, for your 26 years of service, dedication, and support of our Explorers. We wish you and your family the very best in this next chapter.

Harlingen Explorer Post 0967 assisted at this years Harlingen Border Patrol Battle of the Bay fishing tournament. Explorers caught their own fish while waiting for the boats to come in. Agents prepared their catch and they were able to enjoy it. Great job explorers. "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." Harlingen Explorer Post 0967 had the privilege of visiting the memorial sites honoring fallen Harlingen Border Patrol Agents Susan Rodriguez, Ricardo Salinas, Travis Attaway, and Jeremy Wilson, who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their legacy of courage, dedication, and selfless service continues to inspire the next generation.
Throughout the training, Explorers learned the fundamentals of sign cutting (tracking), inspected Rio Grande riverbank landing areas, and participated in realistic field scenarios involving the apprehension of subjects in the challenging South Texas brush. To experience a day in the life of a Border Patrol Agent, they even stopped at a Stripes convenience store to pick up lunch and ate inside their patrol unit, just as agents working in the field often do.
The day provided valuable hands-on training while reinforcing the values of duty, teamwork, and service. Above all, it served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have worn the Border Patrol uniform and the importance of carrying their legacy forward. Thank you former Harlingen explorer and current Harlingen Agent Morales for helping the explorers learn about river line operations after working a midnight shift.

The Brownsville Border Patrol Explorer Post 2966 and Harlingen Border Patrol Explorer Post 0967 proudly celebrated the graduation of Explorer Academy Class 17 and Explorer Honor Guard Class 3.
This graduation ceremony recognizes the hard work, dedication, discipline, and commitment demonstrated by each Explorer throughout their training. During the academy, graduates developed leadership skills, teamwork, physical fitness, professionalism, and a greater understanding of the mission and values of the U.S. Border Patrol. Honor Guard graduates completed additional specialized training to represent their Explorer Posts with pride, precision, and respect during ceremonies and community events.
The graduation marks an important milestone in each Explorer's journey of service and leadership. Family members, friends, Border Patrol personnel, and community supporters gather to recognize the achievements of these outstanding young men and women as they take the next step in their personal and professional development.
Congratulations to the graduates of Explorer Academy Class 17 and Explorer Honor Guard Class 3. Your dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have earned this achievement, and we look forward to your continued success as leaders in your communities. We'd also like to thank Harlingen CISD Superintendent Dr. Veronica Kortan, Harlingen Colligiate High Principal Imelda Treviño and Assistant Principal Alma Hernandez for letting the Border Patrol use their beautiful school.
