9-1-1 The Department maintains seven fire stations on ready-status, twenty-fours a day, throughout the year.

The Harlingen Fire Department with a fire force of 109 members and 3 administrative staff is responsible for fire and rescue services to the City of Harlingen, Combes, Palm Valley, Primera, and approximately 60 square miles of Cameron County. Our goal is to deliver Fire Suppression, Rescue, and Emergency Medical First Responders to the citizens of Harlingen and surrounding areas by providing a wel

The Harlingen Fire Department is taking steps to help prevent deadly house fires by taking part in the American Red Cross’ Sound the Alarm program, which provides fire departments across the country with smoke detectors to be installed at no cost.

After the success of our November 2026 smoke alarm campaign, we’re excited to partner with the American Red Cross to launch a NEW program starting in March!
Harlingen residents can follow the code in the image below to sign up and receive smoke alarms for their home.
This initiative will help make our community safer — one home at a time. 🏠🔥

When historic storms bring extreme rainfall to the Rio Grande Valley, rain overwhelms the city's drainage systems and floods major corridors causing standard emergency fire units to become easily trapped.
