Wheatland County Fire

Wheatland County Fire Volunteer Fire Department

When conditions look like this, a simple burn today can turn into tomorrow’s wildfire.

With strong winds forecasted, even a controlled burn or small debris pile can escape quickly and become impossible to contain. Gusts like we’re expecting can carry embers long distances, starting new fires before you even realize there’s a problem.

If you’re planning to burn — don’t.

Take a day, wait for better conditions, and help us prevent avoidable calls, responses, and potential damage across the county.

A little patience today can prevent a big problem tomorrow.

Mother Nature has done a wonderful job at turning our county into a winter wonderland… unfortunately, we all know the struggles that come with this much snow. Please take a moment to look around your neighborhood for fire hydrants that may be buried. Keeping a 3 foot area cleared on all sides of a hydrant can prove to be very important when it comes time for the Fire Department to use it.

Also, while out shoveling, take a look at the vents for your home! This much snow can easily bury essential vents that could cause some huge problems if covered up.

Thank you to everyone who helped out with any of the fires today. Whether it was fighting the fires or pinpointing the location of the fires! We had 10+ confirmed fires in less than 2 hours! Thank you to Meagher and Golden Valley county’s for being available if needed. We also assisted Martinsdale and Checkerboard with what we could! Keep your eyes out for any smoke the next couple days.
Thank you!
