Summer READing Registration begins May 26th-June 8th

Join our 2026 Summer Reading Program: Unearth A Story!

Summer Reading Program (SRP) begins Tuesday, June 9th and will run every Tuesday,
with our end of SRP celebration on Tuesday, July 21st.

When you register your student, you will get an out line of our SRP and a log sheet.
Start tracking minutes read/listened as early as Tuesday, June 2nd.
Each Tuesday, have your student bring their log sheet, so we can track their reading journey.
Each week will be a fun, educational hour filled with some extra special guests who will be joining us and a field trip to the Upper Musselshell Museum.

Summer Reading is a great way to keep reading and learning a priority though out the summer. This summer we’re finding ways to grow our creativity and learn about K-9’s, Fossils, Native American’s, our country as we celebrate America’s 250th, and of course Dinosaurs as we Unearth A Story each Tuesday!

Students of ages 3-8 will meet Tuesday’s at 1:00
Students of age 9 and older will meet Tuesday’s at 2:30
(some program adjustments are made in the outline)

Don’t forget to join us at the library on Tuesday, August 4th at noon for a special program by the Montana Raptor Conservation Center.

To everyone who received a quaking aspen from Neighborhood Forest last month.

The have acknowledge that those little quakies had a tough trip to our hands. They have reached out to let us know that they are sending us a Canaan Fir to all of you. That’s how awesome our partnership with Neighborhood Forest is! ❤

Please watch your emails for the arrivals of these saplings, either last next week or early in the week of May 18th.

FRIDAY, MAY 8TH-TODAY, is the last day to view the Traveling Tapestry Display.

Stop in to the Harlowton Public Library to view this display and while in the conference room, view the Junior High and High School Art Show by the Engineers. Today, is also the last day of the craft showcase.

The Harlowton Public Library is hosting the Montana Tapestry, a five-panel pop-up banner exhibit that introduces eight Montanans who have made significant contributions to the state and nation since 1776. Guided by the Dakota phrase Mitakue Oyasin-"all my relations"- the exhibit invites viewers to consider how they are connected to Montana and the United States across the past, present, and future. The Montanas featured include immunologist Maurice, Hilleman, doctor and collector Caroline McGill, historic figures Pretty Shield and Granville Stuart, veteran and Indigenous leader Gilbert Horn Sr., librarian Alma Smith Jacobs, author Ivan Doig and actor Lily Gladstone.

"Montana history is full of characters, culture-keepers, and innovators who have influenced our nation over its first 250 years," said Molly Stockdale, Montana 250 Commission vice chair. "Montana Tapestry weaves together their stories and invites audiences to see themselves among the threads that bind us as Americans."This is brought to us by The Montana250 Commission, in partnership with the Montana Historical Society and Humanities Montana.

As you view this exhibit, we hope it can be a springboard for you to ponder the stories of locals who have made great contributions to our history. The Montana Tapestry exhibit will be on display at the Harlowton Public Library through May 8th.

Meet Sawyer, our final Kid Librarian of the 2025-2026 school year.

The Harlowton Public Library, in partnership with the Hillcrest Elementary School brings you Kid Librarian.

This last school year, one student each month was recognized for their good behavior, manners and respect to others while at school.

Each month, six students who are standouts for their behavior traits were put in a random drawing, with one student winner each month.

We would like to introduce our Kid Librarian for May, Sawyer Breier. Sawyer has built his very own book/dvd display at the HPL and will get to pick one other student to have lunch with her in Ms. Snelling’s office.

Congratulations, Sawyer for being recognized for your good behavior!
