I am joining disability advocates across PA to hail Congress’s passage of the ABLE Age Adjustment Act, which will expand ABLE program eligibility to include an estimated 6 million more Americans, including one million veterans, by raising the age limit for onset of a disability from 26 to 46 starting in 2026.
It’s a great day for people with disabilities not only in Pennsylvania, but those across the country, who will now have the ability to save for the future without jeopardizing benefits they currently rely on. As a veteran, I’m especially grateful to know that my disabled brothers and sisters in arms, many of whom suffered disabilities after their 26th birthday while defending our great nation, will now have access to ABLE accounts and the tax advantages that come with them.

TikTok is owned by ByteDance, based in Beijing, China. Treasury’s computer network is targeted by scammers and criminals every day. TikTok presents a clear danger due to its collection of personal data and its close connection to the communist Chinese government.

As Congress wraps up its work for the year, I'm calling on them to pass the ABLE Age Adjustment Act, legislation which will greatly benefit the lives of six million Americans with disabilities, including one million veterans.
This simple, straightforward legislation – which has amazing bipartisan support – will provide financial empowerment and increased independence for millions of Americans with disabilities. Sen. Bob Casey, who sponsored the original ABLE Act of 2014, introduced the ABLE Age Adjustment Act. It's cosponsored by Sen. Pat Toomey, and the House version is cosponsored by 17 of the 18 members in PA's delegation.
ABLE account owners can save without impacting vital means-tested means-tested benefits. There are also tax advantages to those saving for qualifying disability-related expenses, including housing, healthcare, financial services, education, and more. ABLE allows millions of people with disabilities nationwide to save in a way that was previously impossible.
But current federal law limits eligibility to individuals whose qualifying disability was diagnosed before age 26. The ABLE Age Adjustment Act would increase that to 46.
It's a simple change – but the impact will be profound. Giving more people the opportunity to save with ABLE is the right thing to do. It's time to make it happen.
