Training, training, training!

Tonight the newer members got right in it, practicing things like removing a patient from a damaged vehicle, spinal immobilization, and intro to the organized chaos of a full cardiac arrest call, and introduction to some more advanced skills like intravenous therapy, all under the direction of the more experienced EMTs and paramedics!

When the worst happens, we want to be at our best.

Update on Engine 430!

Our 1934 Ford fire truck is getting a "new" engine!

We'd have liked to keep it all original for the historical significance, but the 92 year-old engine was just not realistic to repair. A community member has offered his services to swap it out, as well as utilizing his sources for needed parts, including an engine that is slightly newer, but nearly the same as the old one. It's also getting a few minor upgrades to help ensure it's around for years to come.

We hope you all look forward to seeing this amazing piece of Harrisburg history rolling through the 4th of July and Holiday parades once again!

Engineer training!

A engineer in the fire service, also called a pump operator, drives the pumper, operates the fire pump, and is ultimately responsible for the equipment and general operations related to the fire pumper. It can be a complicated job, but a critical one!

We're in the process of training new engineers, and we got a couple photos of them hard at work, learning everything there is to know about their new responsibilities!

Did you know that Thanksgiving day is the #1 day in the U.S. for home cooking fires? Did you also know that annually home cooking fires cause the most injuries?

Be safe this year. We love to see you out and about, maybe at the grocery store or in line for coffee. But we do NOT want to see you this Thursday because you wanted to catch a few minutes of football in the living room and your stuffing caught on fire!

The BEST way to prevent cooking fires this week is to never leave your cooking unattended. Keep children and pets out of the kitchen where they might knock into something hot. Remember that grease fires in a pan should be extinguished by smothering with a lid or cookie sheet--never add water to a grease fire. Make sure all ovens and stoves are turned off before you sit down to eat.

P.S. Today is your last day to move a frozen turkey to the fridge to thaw. 🦃

Drill night!

Our recruits have spent a lot of time hitting the books, tonight they started pulling that knowledge together with active training!

They practiced simple structure entry with victim search in full gear, as well as pulling a line from the engine and making entry with it!

They're doing great!

As always, proud to assist our JC neighbors.

Update on Recent Apartment Fire:
On 11-14-2025 at around 07:14 hours, Junction City Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the Norsemen Village Apartments for the report of an apartment fire. Multiple callers were reporting smoke coming from the roof vents of a single story 4-plex apartment building. As crews were arriving, we received information about a possible trapped occupant in the fire apartment. The first in engine’s crew was assigned to primary search and were quickly able to locate and remove an unconscious female victim from her apartment.
While that crew worked to stabilize the patient for transport to the hospital, another crew entered the apartment to finish the primary search and located no other victims. The fire had started in the kitchen area and burned long enough to create significant smoke and heat before it was quickly extinguished. Aside from minor smoke intrusion, neither of the other 3 apartments in the 4-plex were significantly impacted and residents were allowed back into them later in the day.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. At the time of this writing, the victim is doing well and recovering at the Hospital. JC Fire would like to thank all involved with the successful outcome in this incident including Harrisburg Fire, Junction City PD, Lane Fire Authority Medics and bystanders for their quick action in calling the fire in to 911.

-0900 update- An unconscious female was rescued by the first crew on scene. She was transported to a local hospital with severe smoke inhalation.

The fire is out. There were no injuries to any firefighters, the cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate is pending.
