✨Last Friday, July 31, PHRC Administrative Assistant and AI Committee Co-Chair Amanda Martin served as a panelist at AI Maitri's "From City Halls to the Boardrooms: Leading AI Responsibly" event in New York City, part of M365 Community Days NYC.

Amanda represented the PHRC by sharing leadership insights, lessons learned, and real-world experiences in adopting and governing AI responsibly. 🤝💡

The PHRC issued a statement regarding the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)'s recent proposal to rescind the 60-year requirement for employers to submit annual workforce demographic reports. The EEOC voted 2-1 to eliminate the requirement, initiating a 30-day public comment period before potential final approval.

“This proposal feels like a step backward into a darker chapter of our civil rights history,” said PHRC Interim Chair Curtis Jones, Jr. “If the EEOC moves forward with this proposal, it will threaten the very foundation of evidence-based civil rights enforcement. Demographic reporting has been the flashlight that reveals inequity hiding in the shadows. Taking it away doesn’t make inequality disappear, it only makes it harder to find.”

“This proposed rollback risks leaving workers, especially those in underrepresented communities, less protected than ever,” said PHRC Interim Executive Director Amber J.E. Harris. “Information is not a burden. It is a safeguard. Data is the voice of workers who may never be heard otherwise. Without it, patterns of injustice risk becoming invisible, and people who face discrimination every day may once again stand alone.”

✨ Since January 2026, the PHRC has provided 96 trainings to more than 5,100 people across our communities. The PHRC offers free and in-depth trainings on topics of civil rights and discrimination protections in Pennsylvania.

🐾 Happy Assistance Dog Day!
We celebrate the amazing service animals who provide life‑changing support, independence, and companionship to people with disabilities.

Under the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, individuals with disabilities have the right to be accompanied by their assistance animals in public spaces, housing, and workplaces, free from discrimination.

The PHRC remains committed to protecting these rights and advancing accessibility and inclusion across the Commonwealth.

✨Investigative Highlight 🔍
In July 2026, PHRC continued its work to protect civil rights and ensure fair treatment across Pennsylvania. Below is a case of note:

💼Employment Case:
◾A ride-operation incident resulted in two female operators being discharged, while another male operator involved was not disciplined.
◾A full review of disciplinary records showed inconsistent treatment of females in comparison to male ride operators who had similar and/or more severe incidents.
◾The investigation determined that the employer's justification did not align with past practices or past actions taken.
◾The case concluded after probable cause was established through conciliation, resulting in a $12,500 settlement for the Complainant.
