We loved celebrating India Day with everyone in Harrisburg this last weekend! Indian immigrants have brought culture, traditions, and community to Harrisburg and to Dauphin County. Events like India Day remind us how much our communities contribute to the vibrancy and strength of the places we call home.

Every immigrant community deserves to feel safe celebrating our cultures, gathering with our neighbors, and building a future here. That’s why we’re working to make Dauphin County a Welcoming County where every family and every community knows they belong.

You can sign the petition to build a community where everyone can celebrate who they are without fear. https://www.apipennsylvania.org/welcoming-dauphin

The QuAsian Takeover celebrates the rich vibrancy and pays homage to q***r Asian communities. This is a space for LGBTQ+ API people to connect, dance, celebrate, learn, and build community. There will be casual activities like mahjong, q***r API trivia, a variety of live performances, and live DJ. Together, we’ll uplift local talent, honor our shared histories, and create a welcoming space where q***r API identities are centered, celebrated, and embraced.

We deeply appreciate the support of Val’s Le***an Bar for making this event possible and the Asian Americans United Community in Solidarity Fund for supporting over 100 families in navigating ICE detention, mostly from Philadelphia. A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the Community in Solidarity fund.

Shaoping Xu dedicated his life to fighting repression and human rights abuses as a lawyer in China. He faced persecution, and sought asylum in the United States. Now, he’s in ICE detention despite his active asylum claim.

Asylum is a cornerstone of American immigration policy. It has been a historic lifeline for communities like our own that have fled war, violence, instability, and repression, and now call Pennsylvania their home. We’re demanding that ICE immediately release Shaoping in order for his asylum claim to be processed properly.

Shaoping Wu is a resident of Lancaster, PA. In 2020, he fled to the U.S. from China and applied for asylum due to persecution from his work as a human rights lawyer. On Wednesday, he was detained by ICE in Mount Holly Springs, despite his active asylum claim.

We have been in contact with friends and allies from Mount Holly Springs, who are fighting locally to end 287(g) agreements with ICE. Police officers in the area have been actively stopping commercial truck drivers suspected of being undocumented. Shaoping Wu was arrested after being pulled over while delivering packages for Amazon.

In China, Mr. Wu advocated for religious minorities and political dissidents, at great risk to himself. Just this month, Mr. Wu spoke at an event commemorating the Chinese government’s sweeping 2015 crackdown on lawyers:

“To the outside world, human rights lawyers might seem like a group of idealistic and tragic heroes. However, for us, this is not a romantic or performative act, but rather our unavoidable mission and responsibility.”

It is also our responsibility to advocate for people like Shaoping Wu, who fled to Lancaster seeking safety from government persecution.

We call for Shaoping Wu’s immediate release from detention so he can continue to have his active asylum claim processed. We also call for an end to 287(g) agreements in Mount Holly Spring, Lancaster County, and across the country.

Join us on 7/25 as we rally with interfaith leaders to call for an immediate end to Police-ICE collaboration through 287(g) agreements in Lancaster County. Link in comments.

This evening, President Trump used a primetime presidential address to continue spreading lies and misinformation about our elections.

Here’s the truth. We have had free and fair elections for years, including the election in 2020. There is no evidence of widespread fraud, direct foreign intervention, or federal or state corruption. So why bother revisiting debunked conspiracy theories?

Let’s be clear about what Trump’s goals are: by trying to rewrite elections in the past, he’s attempting to discredit our elections in the future.

We’re not giving Trump and MAGA an opportunity to call foul on our elections this November before votes are cast and ballots are counted. We’re working to get as many voters to the polls as possible to exercise their right to vote, and making sure our communities’ voices are heard.
