Today, our VP of Development, Mary Murphy, and Ally Krull, Director of Development in Lancaster County, joined Good Day PA to talk about Over The Edge and the BIG impact that can come from one simple decision to show up.

Because the truth is: it takes little to be BIG.

A little time. A little encouragement. A little consistency. A little courage.

September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month. 💚

And while we celebrate all month long, the heart of this work happens every single day.

It happens in the conversations that build confidence.
In the moments when a young person realizes someone truly sees them.
In the encouragement that says, “You can do this.”
And in the consistency of a mentor who simply keeps showing up.

Because sometimes, it takes something little to become something BIG.

A little time.
A little encouragement.
A little belief.
A little consistency.

Those little moments can become bigger dreams, stronger futures, and possibilities a young person may not have imagined for themselves.

This month, we celebrate our Bigs, our Littles, our families, our supporters, and every person who believes in the power and promise of mentorship.

But we also remember the young people still waiting for someone to show up for them.

It takes little to be BIG. And the impact can last a lifetime. 💚

It’s ! Yesterday we were honored to be the nonprofit recipient of Just Plain Yoga Studio’s community yoga class! It was a great morning of stretching, balance and finding our center.

It was even more special as we were joined by Big Sister Clarissa and Little Sister Heaven’Lay. Matched for three years, this was Heaven’Lay’s first yoga class! Mentorship moments like this show just how important spending time together can be, opening doors to new experiences and learning from each other.

A huge THANK YOU to Capital City Mall for inviting Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA to join their morning rally meeting! ⭐💚

We had the opportunity to share a little about who we are, the young people we serve, and why something as simple as rounding up at the register can make a BIG impact right here in our local communities.

Those extra cents add up. They help us recruit, screen, train, and support mentors. They help create and sustain meaningful matches. And ultimately, they help more young people have a caring adult in their corner.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Macy’s team for welcoming us, learning more about our mission, and helping their customers understand that Back to School is Better Together.

High school students aren’t just preparing to become leaders. They’re already showing up as mentors.

Across Big Brothers Big Sisters, more than 14,000 High School Bigs are stepping into one-to-one mentoring relationships and becoming part of our fastest-growing population of volunteers.

They’re proving that you don’t have to wait until adulthood to make an impact. Sometimes changing a life starts with simply showing up, listening, encouraging, and being the person a Little can count on.

Because mentorship has no minimum age. It just takes someone willing to be BIG.

Not ready to rappel? Prefer to keep your feet planted on the ground? Volunteer with us during Over the Edge and you can still show your support for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA!

We are looking for several more Ropes Volunteers to aid us during the event: helping with participant gear, belaying ropes and rooftop assistance. Training is provided; no experience necessary. It's a great way to experience the adventure, cheer on rappelers and give back to the community in support of youth mentorship.

Sometimes, even our volunteers decide to take the leap! Derek Bicksler, an Over the Edge ropes volunteer for 10 years and lover of extreme sports, took to the rooftop last year!

Last Thursday, we were pleased to host the York County Economic Alliance mixer at our downtown York office. It was a wonderful opportunity to share the impact of our one-to-one mentoring programs and connect with community members who are committed to supporting local youth.

The evening was made even more special as we continued our 45th anniversary celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Because of the generosity of our community and business partners, we are able to keep our programs free and accessible to all. In 2025 alone, we increased the number of youth served in York county by 350%. We look forward to strengthening these partnerships and creating new connections as we work to support even more young people in our community.
