The Saline County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the death of a minor in coordination with the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation. At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional details can be released.

We understand the concern and interest from the public; however, it is important to allow investigators the time necessary to conduct a complete and thorough investigation.

The duty of the Coroner’s Office is to investigate and determine the cause and manner of death as prescribed under Illinois law. The Coroner’s Office does not determine criminal liability or pursue criminal charges. Any decisions regarding criminal charges are the responsibility of the appropriate law enforcement agencies and the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Our staff’s thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and all those affected during this incredibly difficult time. We ask the public to please join us in keeping this family in your thoughts and prayers as the investigation continues.

We appreciate the public’s patience, understanding, and respect for the family’s privacy.

Pictured from left are Saline County Coroner Deputy Tom Banks, Coroner Jon Poore, and Deputy Keith Griffin. Over the past week, our office successfully completed a mandatory 40-hour fi****ms and use-of-force training course prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. The course was presented by Police Training Specialist Justin Spencer and Saline County Chief Deputy Jerod Campbell.

I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication shown by Deputies Tom Banks and Keith Griffin throughout this training. Their willingness to devote the time and effort necessary to better serve the citizens of Saline County speaks highly of their professionalism and commitment to this office. I was honored to complete the course alongside them.

Whenever training opportunities become available, our office strives to take full advantage of them so we can continue serving the residents of Saline County with professionalism, preparedness, and integrity. Please join me in congratulating Tom and Keith on this accomplishment and thanking them for their continued service to our community.
