On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27, 1945. Antisemitism and violent prejudices remain all too familiar in the present day, and we must recommit ourselves to the work of educating our communities and stamping out all forms of bigotry.

It is difficult to fathom the number of people who have passed away from the COVID-19 virus. This pandemic has taken so much from each one of us, as the national death count is expected to reach 400,000 lives today and 2 million worldwide. That is 2 million empty chairs at the dinner table.

Rep. Perry Warren and the entire Southeast Delegation is honoring the National Day of Remembrance for victims of COVID-19.

Let’s keep honoring them by protecting their loved ones.

Remembering 400,000 Americans and the members of our communities who have died from Covid-19.

This week, the Southeast Delegation elected Rep. Jennifer O'Mara to serve as Southeast Delegation Chair for the 2021-2022 term! Check out her press release below for more information!👇👇👇

I am humbled that my colleagues chose me to lead the southeast delegation for the next two years. As someone who doesn’t come from a political family – my dad was a firefighter and my mom a school bus driver – my experiences growing up are the reality of many hard-working Pennsylvanians. I am honored to lead the delegation and look forward to lifting up the voices of not just my constituents, but every Pennsylvanian in need of social and economic equity.

Happy National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Check out how Rep. Nancy Guenst is commemorating the day below!

Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and I delivered goody bags to officers in police departments across our district. I believe that it's important to show those who are risking their lives how much we appreciate the hard work they are doing to keep our communities safe - especially in these very difficult times.

There is NO PLACE in our #democracy for leaders who incite sedition and domestic terrorism. We need leaders who will protect and uphold the principles of our constitution and the will of the people!!!!

Rep. Melissa Shusterman is introducing legislation urging congress to remove the President from office. Check out her post below! 👇👇👇

Today will be remembered as one of the darkest days in American history. This was a direct threat to our democracy, our election integrity, and the peaceful transfer of power. I call on all of my colleagues to condemn this violence. This is terrorism and un-American. I am drafting a resolution to urge Congress to impeach and remove the President of the United States for inciting terrorism and failing to act in the interest of the saftey of our representatives in Congress.

Rep. Jennifer O'Mara

The peaceful transfer of power is one of the fundamental pillars of our democracy. What is happening RIGHT NOW in DC is more than scary... it is a THREAT to that very foundation!!!

Check out Southeast Delegation Vice Chair Rep. Jennifer O'Mara's post below.

I want to reassure all of my constituents that my staff and I are all safe in Delco right now. Words cannot describe how appalled I am by the rioters storming Capitol Hill today. Attempting to stop the peaceful transition of power by force is a criminal act, and fundamentally un-American. I am grateful for the safety of Representative Scanlon and Senators Casey and Toomey. I am praying for the continued safety of the members of the US House, US Senate, the staffers, and the Capitol Police working to keep them safe. My heart is broken for our country right now.

Today, the PA Legislative Budget and Finance Committee voted "NO" on moving forward with a risk-limiting audit of PA's 2020 election. The audit, as directed by HR 1100, was another GOP attempt to delay the certification of PA's election and suppress the voices of Pennsylvania voters. Those voting "NO" to the audit include LBFC Executive Officers Rep. Jake Wheatley and Senator Jim Brewster.

Check out LBFC Member & Southeast Delegation Chairwoman Rep. Margo Davidson's post below for more information and to watch a replay of today's LBFC meeting.

STOP THE PRESSES: Today the LBFC of which I am a member, voted NO in Executive Committee to another #PAGOP legislative attempt to slow the certification of our election. The RESOLUTION directed the LBFC to conduct a risk-limiting audit. By a 2-1 vote, that will not be happening because, 1) all qualified consultants declined 2) it is duplicative, superlative, expensive, and 3) outside the usual scope of the Committee's work. So in a word: NAY!

Rep. Jennifer O'Mara

A note from Southeast Delegation Vice Chair Rep. Jennifer O'Mara:

Yesterday the legislature spontaneously added a third session day to this week in hopes that we can pass a timely budget. While I was in Harrisburg to vote on Wednesday and Thursday, I am voting remotely today because another one of my colleagues across the aisle tested positive for COVID-19.

I always wear my mask while walking around the Capitol, but especially when I'm sitting on the House Floor surrounded by over 150 individuals. But dozens and dozens of my colleagues cannot say the same. Many elected officials vote and attend committee meetings without wearing one, and I was around them all day yesterday.

Speaker Bryan Cutler allows this careless behavior because he has not implemented a mandatory masking rule on the House floor, yet he will bar a male member from speaking because he is not wearing a tie.

COVID-19 cases are rapidly rising throughout the commonwealth. To keep Capitol staff members, security guards, elected officials and our vulnerable family members safe, we need to lead by example.

I call on Speaker Cutler to implement a mandatory masking measure on the House floor. It is undebatable that enforcing a rule that has potential to save countless lives is far more valuable than enforcing a dress code. It’s time to put Pennsylvanians’ safety first. We need to do better.

Yesterday, new orders were issued by Pennsylvania Department of Health to help mitigate the rise of COVID-19 cases in the Commonwealth. Check out Rep. Joe Ciresi's post below for additional information on the new measures that will be put in place to help protect you and your loved ones during this public health crisis.

Yesterday the Pennsylvania Department of Health issued new guidelines in response to rising cases of the COVID-19 virus, affecting hospitals, out-of-state travel, masking, and institutions of higher education. More information about these guidelines can be found at: https://www.media.pa.gov/Pages/Health-Details.aspx?newsid=1140

There are new guidelines to battle COVID-19, but there are no shutdowns planned to #StopTheSpread – which means it’s on us to step up and #MaskUpPA. Working together we can save lives and protect our healthcare workers.

Bill Information - House Bill 2454; Regular Session 2019-2020

Today, the Southeast Delegation met with PP Pennsylvania Advocates to discuss how sexual and reproductive health has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Did you know that 1 in 3 women struggled to get birth control or reproductive care due to Coronavirus?

Rep. Christina Sappey has introduced HB 2454, which would provide for telemedicine in PA. This bill would create additional access to care that would help not only women, but all who face barriers to treatment during a time when we need more options. You can read Rep. Sappey's legislation by visiting the link below.

Southeast Delegation Member Rep. Danielle Friel Otten shares resources below that can help those affected by domestic violence.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is held throughout the month of October as a way to bring awareness to the issue of domestic violence, remember those we have lost, lift up those who have survived, and shine a light on the communities and advocacy organizations across the country working together to end domestic violence for good.

The 2020 Census deadline has been extended until October 31st. Communities lose $2,000 for every person not counted. That means less money for schools, hospitals and infrastructure in a time when we need it most. Make sure you get counted!

You can complete the Census online at www.2020census.gov.

Rep. Joe Ciresi

October 4th-10th is National Fire Prevention Week. Southeast Delegation Member Rep. Joe Ciresi participated by sharing information on how you can protect yourself and your family from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Check out Rep. Ciresi's video below with the Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner to learn about these life-saving techniques.

I recently told you about the CO detector going off in my house and how firefighters found a gas leak. Now, I want to help protect you and your family from this type of situation. As part of Fire Prevention Week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner to talk about the signs of CO poisoning and the steps to prevent it from happening to you.

My office is also accepting donations of new carbon monoxide detectors which will be distributed to local fire companies. Donations can be dropped off in the box at the back door of my Royersford District Office, located off of Oak St.

10/06/2020

Yesterday, Governor Wolf signed an order to reopen the Mortgage & Rental Assistance program and extended the application to November 4th.

For more information on this crucial program, check out Southeast Delegation Member Rep. Danielle Friel Otten's post below.

Governor Wolf has issued an emergency order extending the COVID-19 Relief Mortgage and Rental Assistance Grant Program. These CARES assistance programs for Pennsylvania renters and homeowners have now been reopened and will accept applications until Nov. 4. All eligibility requirements remain the same as they were when the programs ended on Sept. 30. Applications submitted prior to Oct. 1 will continue to be reviewed, and new applications will be added to the pool of submissions.

Applications for rent and mortgage relief are available through the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency’s website at www.PHFA.org. Look for the red CARES banner on the PHFA homepage.

While the extension of the Mortgage and Rental Assistance Grant Program will allow more individuals and families to apply for the assistance they need as a result of the pandemic, we must also continue to work toward more long-term solutions to help Pennsylvanians stay in their homes with the winter months just around the corner, and help ensure that homeowners and mom-and-pop landlords can meet their mortgage obligations.

That’s why I am proud to co-sponsor the Safe at Home package of bills, which go beyond the PHFA programs to provide assistance to more renters, homeowners, and small landlords across the commonwealth. Keeping families in their homes is good for Pennsylvanians and good for our state economy as we work to recover from the economic consequences of the pandemic.
