The Paxtang Fire Company No. 1 mourns the loss of our Fire Chief Thomas D. Etzle Jr. Tom, passed away yesterday morning June 3, 2026 while holding his wife's hand at the UPMC West Shore Hospital after his brave battle with esophageal cancer.

Tom was elected as our Fire Chief for the 2026 year term, Tom served in the department for several years in different roles, and was an integral part of our department. Tom also proudly served as a firefighter for the Steelton Pa Fire Department, Londonderry Fire Company, and was a proud member of the Fire Fighters of NASCAR.

We mourn the loss of a great man, but we also celebrate a life dedicated to commitment, fellowship, friendship, inspiration, leadership, mentorship, service, and helping others. His presence will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

Tom’s legacy will live on through the countless firefighters he mentored, the communities he served, and the lives he touched.

While we find comfort in knowing he is at peace, the loss of a husband, father, brother, and firefighter will leave a lasting mark on our department and our hearts.

We offer our sincere condolences to his family. We ask that you please keep the Etzle family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy Brother, we’ll take it from here! 🚒❤️
