⚡ Sparks were flying in the SIC Welding Lab as local junior high students learned hands-on welding skills during a recent 4-H Spin Club Welding Class in Harrisburg!

Over five evenings, students learned welding safety, basic welding procedures, and skills used in the welding and farm industries. Many were welding for the very first time and created projects they can proudly display at their county fairs this summer, including boot racks, camping grates, welded names, and horseshoe art.

Thank you to Doug Mayfield, Dean of Career and Technical Education, along with Jerry Jones and Johnathon Vinyard, for helping introduce these students to valuable skills and career opportunities in the skilled trades.

Meet Hannah Wenzel.

After completing her degree at Southeastern Illinois College, Hannah was awarded the SIU Provost Scholarship, covering two full years of tuition and housing as she continues her journey in Elementary Education.

For Hannah, this isn’t just a scholarship. It’s the freedom to graduate debt-free and pursue her passion of teaching in communities that need great educators the most.
