Standing up for taxpayers
With projected state budget surpluses, yesterday my colleagues and I approved a measure, House Bill 1960, to cut the rate of one of Pennsylvania's most burdensome taxes on job creators. In an overwhelming bi-partisan vote of 195-8, we affirmed that state revenues are those of the hardworking Pennsylvanians who pay them, not the government. I offered these remarks on House Bill 1960 before its consideration yesterday.
Honoring the National Champion Penn State Wrestling Team
It was my privilege to offer remarks on the floor of the House yesterday afternoon recognizing Penn State Nittany Lion Wrestling team on winning the 2022 National Championship on Saturday, March 19 in Detroit. This is the program's tenth national championship under the leadership of head coach Cael Sanderson. This team is a credit to Penn State, and the entire Commonwealth. The wrestling program's commitment to excellence on the mat and in the classroom should serve as a model for other college athletic programs. Congratulations! #WeAre

My colleagues and I got some good things done for Pennsylvanians this week!
Divesting from Russia and investing in freedom
As barbarity inflicted on Ukraine continues, we must act with resolve and without hesitation. Standing with Ukraine requires the full, immediate divestiture of Pennsylvania resources from Russia. Standing with Ukraine also requires we utilize, without reservation, all available sources of American energy, and that should start right here in our Commonwealth.
The Ukrainian people, Americans, and all who desire to live in liberty and peace deserve nothing less. My full remarks at our press conference earier this week.
Standing with Ukraine and promting energy independence
This morning I joined a number of my colleagues to express our support for Ukraine. If the bloodshed in Ukraine is to end now and not spread to surrounding NATO countries, we must unleash every means against Putin immediately. That means eliminating, to the extent possible, the market for Russian oil and energy by ramping up production of oil and gas here in Pennsylvania.
Can we afford $1.5 billion in new school spending?
The PA Department of Education (PDE) is asking for an additional $1.5 billion in funding for education. After many school districts did not see a pandemic-related drop in local revenues, this bold request is difficult to reconcile with runaway inflation and other financial challenges facing PA taxpayers. I asked the Secretary of Education and PDE staff about that earlier today during House budget hearings.
Protecting our farmers from burdensome regualtions
After the testimony of the Secretary of Agriculture during budget hearings earlier today, I asked about the burden placed on our farmers by multistate compacts such as the Chesapeake Bay Commission and the Delaware River Basin Commission. These entities, which include officials from neighboring states, often impose obligations which carry the force of law on Pennsylvanians. Watch our exchange below.
Budget Hearing with Department of Community and Economic Development
Yesterday, I questioned Department of Community and Economic Development Acting Secretary Neil Weaver on forcing small businesses to close during the pandemic. I asked for sympathy on the impacted businesses in our Commonwealth.

I was honored to have Trenton Howard and his parents join me on the House floor today. Trenton recently completed the 54-hour training exercise called the Crucible, the final test to become a Marine. Ooh-rah!
