Tri County Community Action

Tri County Community Action Since 1966 we've been helping people & changing lives throughout Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry Counties.

Tri County Community Action, (TCCA), part of America’s Poverty Fighting Network, has been helping people and changing lives throughout Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry Counties since 1966. As a private, nonprofit, social service agency, we create and connect resources for individuals and families to move from poverty and crisis situations to self-sufficiency

Everyday we are working to help our clie

nts break the cycle of poverty - By teaching children to read, providing in-home case management, offering parenting and budgeting classes, helping a single mother find childcare and employment, addressing blight in our neighborhood or empowering fathers to strengthen relationships with their children. We take a comprehensive approach to individual, family, and neighborhood success. We work tirelessly to address the symptoms and causes of poverty in our area, and our programming – budgeting, work readiness, parenting, and financial literacy education, to enhanced supportive services, such as child development, case management, and even community revitalization – speak to our dedication to support families, strengthen communities and eliminate poverty throughout the Capital Region.

Our June newsletter is out now! This month's edition highlights how we celebrated Community Action Month in May and showcases some beautiful artwork from children in our community. We are also excited to share that we have completed our certification to become a trauma-informed organization from Creating Presence.

We hosted our second annual Mothers & Families Brunch and Silent Auction on May 7. It was a special time to celebrate and hear a personal story from one mother working to create a brighter future for herself and her daughters. Thank you to all who attended, sponsored or donated to this event!

Last month, for Community Action Month, we celebrated our 60th anniversary of walking alongside our community members in all three counties. The work hasn't stopped either. Every day, we meet people in need of our services, and we are happy to help them on a path toward self-sufficiency.

To honor our team's commitment to creating positive change in our neighbors' lives, the Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry County Commissioners acknowledged us at their meetings with proclamations! We are grateful to all three counties for supporting the work that we do for their constituents every day.

Last month, we held our 14th annual Great Harrisburg Litter Cleanup, where we collected a record amount of litter. Despite the cloudy weather, 305 volunteers came out to help clean in our community!

We were happy to have so many Harrisburg-based groups join us for this impactful event. We also want to give a special thanks to Lighthouse Christian School and Logos Academy Harrisburg for starting us off a day early and making a huge difference near their school grounds!

Thank you to all of the families that came out to our Munchkins and Moms Group Connection on Saturday! We are so happy to celebrate mothers this month. At this group connection, kids celebrated their mothers with art that moms took home in frames!

Along with this celebration, the kids were able to run around and play with other children their age. Check out these photos of families posing at our photo booth and kids spending time with each other!

Jamilette Quinones is one of our Utility Assistance Coordinators who helps people enroll in the OnTrack program. Jamilette hears stories of hardship from those in her community every day.

By connecting people with OnTrack, they can keep their power on, potentially saving lives when medications or medical devices rely on that electricity. Jamilette is passionate about being someone that other people can turn to when they have nowhere else to go. She is a Voice of Community Action because of how she calmly handles situations that can put our clients under high stress. We're happy to have you on our team Jamilette!

Lisa is our Housing Security Coordinator. She is on-site at various low-income communities to ensure that residents feel heard and can access vital resources. Merideth lives in one of these communities. When she was faced with hardship due to scammers, Lisa helped her regain stability.

Lisa’s assistance and monthly newsletters taught Merideth essential skills for independence! She loves meeting her residents and being a consistent point of contact, when consistency can be scarce for those living in poverty.

We know how important it is for families living in poverty to save money where they can, but we also know how hard this is to do with prices rising. Our Housing Security team helps individuals who are behind on their electricity bills save money and get back on track through PPL's OnTrack program.

They also serve low-income communities by providing on-site resources to those in need. This team ensures that people can feel safe in their homes and focus on their financial and physical well-being.
