The World Surgical Foundation (WSF), founded by Domingo & Vennie Alvear, is seeking donations of used (but still usable) luggage for use in charitable surgical missions serving indigent patients abroad. The Alvears -- Dom (a pediatric surgeon) and Vennie (an anesthesiologist) -- are well-known to many of you. Many local medical professionals have participated in the missions over the 22-year history of the WSF. The organization does at least three missions per year, performing 100-150 major surgeries per mission. The luggage will be filled with medical supplies needed to perform the surgeries. It’s all carried by volunteers to the mission sites. The luggage should be fairly large, wheeled, duffel-bag or soft-sided suitcases. There are various sites you can drop off the luggage and if you can’t drop off, a volunteer can pick it up. Call Executive Director Jen Keeler at 717-232-1404.

Who's going to Dauphin County's fashion show on Tuesday?
Hello,

My name is Erin Hopkins Stern, and I am a doctoral candidate in the APA-accredited Program in clinical psychology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where I am conducting a study for my dissertation as part of my degree program. Under the supervision of Dr. David Festinger, Professor and Principal Investigator, I am interviewing allopathic and osteopathic physicians regarding treatment strategies used for the treatment of chronic pain.

The study will involve asking you to respond to a vignette of a patient with chronic pain, a brief opioid knowledge survey, and a demographic questionnaire. The entire process should take approximately 15 minutes or less. Your participation would be immensely helpful to my research. Additionally, it could contribute to our growing understanding of effective treatment for patients with chronic pain, barriers for physicians in providing care to these patients, and the role of opioids in pain management. As a way of thanking you for your participation, I would be happy to enter you into a raffle to win one of three $100.00 Visa gift cards.

To express your interest in participating in this study, please follow the link to the study found below, or contact me at [email protected].
