Yesterday we welcomed 4 students to the Fall 2021 PA House Fellows and 1 student to the PA House Archives Internship Program! They began their 13-week journey where they will learn the legislative process, meet influential people, and make life-long friends. Good luck to you all!

We are happy to announce that we are now accepting applications for the Fall 2021 semester of the PA House Fellowship Program. We have missed having our students here and the ability to provide them with an experience of the Pennsylvania legislative process.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, this semester may be a little different than previous semesters, however, our goal will remain to provide a hands-on educational and work experience for the students.

Good morning friends and colleagues,

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. We are writing this post with great regret. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we are unfortunately unable to host BMC Fellows for the Spring 2021 semester. We had a large volume of highly qualified applicants, who we were VERY excited to work with in the Spring semester. All have been notified of the cancellation. We truly miss our students and partners and hope to start hosting students again in the 2021 Summer and Fall semesters. We will keep up with notifications on all of our platforms. Our friends in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Archives are doing some really cool things around the Capitol! Check out their newest display!

Update! Our women's exhibit in the main rotunda is now complete! In addition to our exhibit featuring pieces of House History and memorabilia, posters are now on display that feature women who have served in leadership roles in the House and of all the women who have served in the House. A pop up exhibit from the National Archives is also on display. Be sure to check it out! Take some photos and tag us on Facebook ,Twitter, and/or Instagram!

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! We have some unfortunate news. Sadly, we had to make the very heart wrenching decision to cancel our Fall 2020 semester due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns and mitigation efforts. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we will have a Spring 2021 semester. If anyone is interested in hearing more about the Fellowship program, we will continue to post updates on this page.

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! We want to provide a quick update and some information on the BMC Legislative Fellowship Program for our new followers. We miss our student interns and are looking forward to a successful Fall 2020 semester! The BMC Fellowship Program is an opportunity for students to be provided with work experience, education, and insight into the people, issues, and politics of the legislative process.

Based in Pennsylvania's magnificent State Capitol in Harrisburg, the 13-week program places undergraduate juniors and seniors, graduate students, and law school students attending Pennsylvania colleges or universities in the offices of Committee Chairmen or House Leaders. Pennsylvania residents are also eligible to participate in this program if they attend an out-of-state school.

Between researching, writing bill and policy analysis, conducting interviews, attending budget and committee hearings, Fellowship workshops and tours, more researching, preparing for legislative session days, drafting original pieces of legislation, and did we mention, more researching? Today, the Fellows visited the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Archives. The group learned about how the Archives collects, preserves and provides access to the permanently valuable historic records created by Representatives, Committees, Offices and Staff in order to promote understanding of the history of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and its impact on Pennsylvania's citizens today. The Fellows took a tour of the Pennsylvania State Library, where they have access to one of the largest library collections in the United States. The Library's collection ranges from Marvel Comics, to state/national newspapers, to genealogical and historical articles. This morning the House Fellowship Program, met with The Pennsylvania Legislative Reference Bureau to discuss the legislative drafting process. The LRB is one of the busiest legal offices in Pennsylvania. They prepare requested legislative bills and resolutions for introduction in the General Assembly, advise members of the Legislature and legislative committees; and, from time to time, prepare proposed codifications of existing general statutes for adoption or rejection by the General Assembly. LRB attorneys are an invaluable resource to the Legislative Fellows, as each Fellow drafts, presents, and defends their own original legislation as a component of this program. Today, our House Legislative Fellows along with interns from Pennsylvania House of Representatives Archives, Temple University- Pennsylvania Capital Semester, and Speaker Mike Turzai's Office toured the Pennsylvania State Museum. The students learned diverse aspects of Pennsylvania’s history, and had the opportunity to view the Museum's storage rooms. Fall 2019- Katherine Weaver Presentation

Katherine Weaver, A Temple University Student who interned in the Fall 2019 semester with the Democratic Judiciary Committe under Rep. Tim Briggs, presents her original legislation which allows the Department of Corrections to furnish reentrants with a sum of money not to exceed $200. These reentrants must have served in a state prison for a period of time equal to ten years or above.
