We are so excited to have interns back in our office. Meet Calley Palicia, who is a senior at Gannon University!

Where do you attend school and what’s your major? Gannon University and my major is history with a minor in archaeology

What are you career goals/interests? I’m unsure of my specific goals at that moment. However, I’m interested in working with collections and exhibits. If I go down the law route I’d like to be paralegal, or work at a law library to do legal research.

Fun facts/hobbies? I enjoy painting and golf.

What is your favorite era(s) of history? I had a class called Good and Evil: Reconciliation of The Holocaust and at the end of the semester we went to Poland to see the camps. I think the experience of seeing the remnants in person has made the Holocaust a subject I find particularly interesting.

What interested you in pursuing an internship with the House Archives? My only experience working with collections has been working in the archaeology lab at Gannon. That means I only have experience with objects, but I’d like to get experience with a more diverse collection.

What to hope to gain during this internship? I hope to gain a better understanding of the role of archives in society. I feel like I have a thorough understanding of museums but not archives.

Best feeling in the world for an archivist...finishing a large collection, putting freshly processed boxes away, and printing a brand new crisp finding aid. Side note, this was only the first cart plus all the oversized framed materials that did not fit on the cart lol.

#DYK that former Speaker Matthew J. Ryan was a critical figure behind the restoration of the Capitol and the Capitol Annex (now the Ryan Building) in the 1980s and 1990s? Ryan helped to establish the Capitol Preservation Committee through HB 2577 in 1982.
