#DYK that former House Member, Thomas Foster Gallagher was a Brevet Brigadier General during the American Civil War? From Westmoreland County, Gallagher saw action at the Battle of Gaines Mills before being captured and sent to Libby Prison. He later returned to the front lines after a prisoner exchange where he was severely wounded at the Battle of South Mountain before the end of the war. He later served in the House in 1867 and 1868. Westmoreland Historical Society & Historic Hanna's Town has his original jacket in their collection!

Our last favorite object is from Martavis Washington. Honestly, this is a staff favorite, but Martavis claimed it first haha! This O'Jays gold record was given to Dwight Evans the Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress. Martavis explains why he picked this as his favorite: "First, I’m a fan of the group. Also, because it’s something you wouldn’t expect to see in the House Archives, definitely in a music archives, but not in the House. The world of politics can be stressful and challenging, the gold record always brings a smile to my face, plus it shows member’s personal interests outside of politics." #ArchivesMonth

Our next favorite object is from Andra! She chose thank you cards from the Julie Harhart collection. She explained that "Coming across thank you cards from children always makes me feel happy. It’s a way of making a large building seem more personal." These are just a few examples of the many handwritten cards to Representative Harhart. #ArchivesMonth

Jesse's favorite object is one that is on display in our office. The bronze artwork, “A Hunt in Progress,” was given to Speaker Mike Turzai by His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, from the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi during his visit to the PA House on June 14, 2016. He explains that he "remembers the visit, the regal and colorful clothing, the polite and professionalism of the King and his company. It was amazing to see and “A Hunt in Progress” is a wonderful reminder of that day." #ArchivesMonth

We have unfortunate news to share. Due to the situation with Covid-19, the House Archives is unable to host interns for the spring 2021 and summer 2021 semesters. We are very disappointed as we have already received excellent applications. However, for the safety of our staff, this is the best option moving forward. We are looking optimistically towards fall 2021 to host interns once again in our office. Please direct questions or concerns regarding our internship program to [email protected] or call us 717-783-3866. Stay safe and healthy!

Today's favorite object is from Rachael! She explains that she "really like our collection of old post cards showing scenes from Harrisburg. It is fun to see how much has changed in the area over last 100+ years – as well as to see how many landmarks are still recognizable. I particularly like all of the horse and carriages shown in the images." #archivesmonth

Today's favorite object is from Taylor Mason! Her favorite is the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus Plate from 1976. She uses this plate a lot in House Archives exhibits since it has so many well known Members like K. Leroy Irvis and Frank Oliver! She explains that "I really enjoy learning and teaching our followers about African American History in Pennsylvania, particularly PA House African American History." #favoriteobject #archivesmonth

Here she is pictured with Archives Director, Jesse Teitelbaum. Included are numerous scrapbooks, plaques, awards, bicycle race jerseys and more memorabilia that will greatly contribute to the Archives and our mission! #housearchives #pahousehistory #donatetoarchives
