🦋 A Lourdeshouse Success Story: Growing Into Her Strength

“I was once told that every butterfly may have its wings, but to become one in your truest form, you must develop, evolve, and expand.”

When this young mother arrived at Lourdeshouse Maternity Home, she was facing challenges that had deeply affected her life and her perspective. She knew she had work to do - not only to prepare for motherhood, but to heal, grow, and create a better future for herself and her daughter.

Her journey has not always been easy. She faced difficult moments, learned to confront what had traumatized her, and discovered the importance of consistency, patience, and accepting what she could not control. Through it all, she continued moving forward.

During her time at Lourdeshouse, she has grown tremendously in maturity and confidence. She learned that you can never be too prepared to become a parent and that asking for support is a strength, not a weakness.

As a single mother, caring for her daughter while building a future has presented its challenges. Yet with the support of her family and the Lourdeshouse staff, she has accomplished so much. She worked, saved money, began college, and continued caring for her daughter and meeting her responsibilities.

And then came an incredible achievement: she earned a 3.6 GPA and was named to the Dean’s List during her first semester of college. 🎓

She is proud of how far she has come - and so are we.

Today, she is not simply surviving. She is building a future for herself and her daughter.

She shared this advice for other mothers who may find themselves in a difficult season:

“Stay grateful. Don’t waste your time here. Try not to overly think of anything negative while being pregnant or going through postpartum. Show gratitude to the staff and director, and have respect for the other mothers. They work hard to keep us comfortable and safe.”

Her story is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a mother is given a safe place to heal, the resources to grow, and the opportunity to dream again.

At Lourdeshouse, we believe every mother deserves the opportunity to spread her wings. 🦋

Her future is just beginning.

Today, we celebrate the Feast of St. Teresa of Calcutta and the International Day of Charity - two powerful reminders that love is made visible through acts of service.

St. Teresa taught us that "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Every day, Catholic Charities strives to live that message by serving our neighbors with compassion, dignity, and hope.

Whether you volunteer, donate, pray, or simply choose kindness, you are helping transform lives and strengthen our communities throughout Central Pennsylvania.

Together, let's answer Christ's call to love and serve one another.

"Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." ~ Matthew 25:40

September is National Recovery Montha time to celebrate hope, healing, and the strength it takes to build a new life.

Recovery doesn't end when treatment does. For many women, the next step is finding a safe, stable place to continue growing in recovery while rebuilding their independence.

That's where Willow Way comes in.

Willow Way provides affordable single-room housing for women who have completed the Evergreen House recovery program. Residents receive ongoing support and accountability while maintaining employment, attending recovery meetings, reconnecting with their families, and building the skills needed for long-term success. It's a place where women can continue their recovery journey with confidence and hope.

This National Recovery Month, we celebrate every milestone - big and small - and every woman who chooses hope each day. Recovery is possible when compassionate people and supportive communities walk alongside those who need them most.

"I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~ Jeremiah 29:11

September is National Recovery Month, a time to recognize that recovery is possible and to celebrate the courage of those taking steps toward a healthier future.

At Evergreen House, Catholic Charities provides more than a place to stay—we provide a safe, nurturing environment where women recovering from substance use disorders can rebuild their lives. Through individual and group therapy, family support, life skills, job readiness, and a community that believes in second chances, women are empowered to achieve lasting recovery and renewed hope.

Recovery is not a journey that anyone should have to walk alone. It takes compassion, encouragement, and a community willing to believe that healing is possible.

This National Recovery Month, we honor every person in recovery, every family supporting a loved one, and every staff member and volunteer who walks beside them with dignity, grace, and hope.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

September is National Recovery Month - a time to celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of individuals on the journey of recovery from mental health and substance use challenges.

Recovery is possible, and no one should have to walk that path alone. Every step forward is a victory, every story is one of hope, and every person deserves compassion, dignity, and the opportunity to heal.

At Catholic Charities, we are committed to accompanying our neighbors with care, encouragement, and hope. Through programs like the ou Evergreen House and other supportive services, we strive to ensure that those facing life's challenges know they are seen, valued, and never alone.

This month, let's work together to end the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction, support those in recovery, and remind one another that hope is always possible.

"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." ~ Matthew 11:28

A simple act today can make a meaningful difference for generations to come.

Today, on National Grief Awareness Day, we pause to remember that grief is a journey no one should have to face alone.

Grief comes in many forms - the loss of a loved one, a home, a relationship, a dream, or a sense of security. While every person's experience is different, one thing remains true: compassion, understanding, and hope can help lighten the burden.

At Catholic Charities, we are committed to walking alongside those who are hurting, offering support, dignity, and hope during life's most difficult moments. Together, we can create a community where no one feels forgotten in their grief.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." ~ Psalm 34:18

If you or someone you know is grieving, remember: you are not alone. 💙
