Pin Job
Last evening was outside the normal for a typical night shift. 1st the garages off then... in the wee hours of the morning.
Units were dispatched to S 19th St for an accident with confinement involving a dump truck. On arrival we found a dump truck into a tree partially resting on a car with the cab detached from the frame. Truck driver had non life threatening injuries. However his leg was pinned between the dash and the seat and the floor. Door was removed and performed a non typical horizontal dash push from the center of the cab. All this was performed 8 feet in the air.

WORKING FIRES
Busy night for the "C" Platoon.
Box 5(S.H-Burg)was dispatched to Hall Manor for a reported kitchen fire. DC 911 had received a couple calls reporting a working fire. The Squad arrived to find just a oven fire and held the box to 1 & 1.
Box 3(Uptown)was dispatched to N.6th St. for a reported building fire. Ladder 2 arrived and reported a porch fire. 1 line was placed in operation with the box held to 1 & 1.
Box 2(N. Allison Hill)was dispatched to the 1300 block of State St for a building fire. BC 4 arrived with fire showing. Companies had the 1st and 2nd floor side porches on fire at a large 3.5 story vacant duplex. No extension was found.
Next up was a box truck on fire in the 2 box(N. Allison Hill)at 14th & Shrub St.
Box 4(Allison Hill) was then dispatched for a large trash fire in the area of 13th & Vernon. While companies were operating there they found a 2.5 story vacant burning. The 1st alarm was then struck. Companies placed several lines in operation with the building being in very bad shape.
The "C" Platoon had a taste of what it was like to be a H-Burg Fireman in the 70's and 80's when the City was burning.

Thanks everyone for all the special services you provide to the City of Harrisburg, Pa. A long time ago I wanted to be a Firefighter. I had all the books on what I needed to study at HACC on the fire codes. Life took a different turn. But back then Squad 8 was a volunteer fire station I used to come by and visit, Until they joined the Union. I still pop up in passing but it's more fun watching all of you wheeling all around the city in your beautiful fire trucks. Not so fun as I pray the fire your headed to keeps you safe and that there are no injury to anyone. Keep up the good work. I alway's yell and wave Squad 8 / Facebook when ever you pass me by. To me --you are also my friends. Not just the members of Squad 8. But all of you who make a difference in the lives of everyone in this City.
Thank you to the firemen who let my 2 year old check out the truck tonight. He really loved it!

I can only get to so many! Anyone is welcome! If you’d like the PDF emailed to you to print out, please message me. Thank you, Kelly
The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 left 343 New York firefighters dead. Retired FDNY Lieutenant James J. O’Donnell survived that horrific day but attended over 150 memorial services for those that passed. Now, he shares the lives of 10 heroes who perished in the attacks, as told by their parents in “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith.” “The crashing of two planes into the Twin Towers not only dismantled the buildings but hundreds of families as well. Mothers and fathers were left in the rubble of these attacks, searching for husbands, brothers and sons. Some of them never received answers nor recovered the bodies,” O’Donnell said. “The parents’ spiritual and emotional journeys can serve as an example of faith rising over despair.” “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith” serves as a memorial to the lives and careers of 10 first responders who perished on 9/11. O’Donnell presents a unique and personal look at how the parents of these heroes were consoled by the FDNY Counseling Services Unit and the role that they played in helping them manage their grief in the aftermath of a national tragedy. In their own words, these faithful families share their sons' bravery and sacrifice so that it will never be forgotten. These parents not only recount the lives of their children but their own road to healing. O’Donnell takes a special look at the role faith played in the lives of those that perished and their families. “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith is meant to help readers understand the stress, hardship and sometimes devastation that parents and families of first responders face,” O’Donnell said. “I also hope that readers realize the efforts and sacrifices of the FDNY and their families. Not only on that day but in the ensuing months and years.” Available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Westbow Press.

How come you don’t seem to post fire videos anymore?
They’re the ones who show up to help when we need it most. Now, an emerging crisis begs the question, who is there for Pennsylvania first responders when they’re the one in need?
Dear Firemen of Squad 8, I want to personally thank you all for the Special Santa Mission today and each and everyday you put your lives on the line to make sure we are safe. Merry Christmas Gentlemen, one and all!
