Here's a run down on this mornings multiple fires that took place on Allison Hill early this morning.
At alittle past midnight Box 4 was dispatched to the area of 13th and Derry for a large trash pile on fire next to a house sending the Squad Company and Tower 1. Companies arrived and placed 1 line in operation. As we were preparing to leave the scene, some civilians ran up to us reporting a fire just right around the corner on Mulberry st. Dauphin County 911 had just started dispatching that fire as Tower 1 arrived and reported a large 3 story building with heavy fire showing. Lt. 1(Miller) then stuck the 1st alarm bringing all City companies and CC Air 13 & YC Rescue 69. All Hands were heavily engaged trying to keep this fire from overtaking the entire block. As companies were starting to overhaul the building some more civilians came up to the members of Wagon 4,who were operating on the Derry street side of the fire and reported another building fire, only a block away on Evergreen street. Wagon 4 and York County Rescue 69(69 ran to the fire)responded to this fire. On arrival companies had a Jumper from a 2nd floor window. Wagon 4 and Rescue 69 worked 3 floors of fire at a 3 story stand alone at Evergreen & Chestnut. Mutual Aid Companies from out side of the City were now on their way to help. Battalion 5(Lloyd) left Mulberry and arrived at the Evergreen st job to take command. He then noticed a column of smoke near Station 8(the Squad House). Just then Dauphin County 911 dispatched a building fire on Zarker street, sending Wagon 3 and Mutual Aid companies. Wagon 3 arrived with a fully involved garage. Wagon 3 made quick work of that fire. Mutual Aid companies arrived and assisted with overhaul. As DC Engine 37 was heading to the garage fire they came across a working building fire in the 1200 block of Market st. This fire was in a 3 story, end of the row. Companies there worked 2 floors of fire. This Market street fire was handled mostly by our Mutual Aid companies as all City Companies were operating at the other jobs. The HBF sends out a huge thank you to all of our Mutual Aid Departments, Life Team EMS and HPD for all of the help this morning. The "Bravo" Platoon at work.

The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 left 343 New York firefighters dead. Retired FDNY Lieutenant James J. O’Donnell survived that horrific day but attended over 150 memorial services for those that passed. Now, he shares the lives of 10 heroes who perished in the attacks, as told by their parents in “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith.” “The crashing of two planes into the Twin Towers not only dismantled the buildings but hundreds of families as well. Mothers and fathers were left in the rubble of these attacks, searching for husbands, brothers and sons. Some of them never received answers nor recovered the bodies,” O’Donnell said. “The parents’ spiritual and emotional journeys can serve as an example of faith rising over despair.” “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith” serves as a memorial to the lives and careers of 10 first responders who perished on 9/11. O’Donnell presents a unique and personal look at how the parents of these heroes were consoled by the FDNY Counseling Services Unit and the role that they played in helping them manage their grief in the aftermath of a national tragedy. In their own words, these faithful families share their sons' bravery and sacrifice so that it will never be forgotten. These parents not only recount the lives of their children but their own road to healing. O’Donnell takes a special look at the role faith played in the lives of those that perished and their families. “Sons of Valor, Parents of Faith is meant to help readers understand the stress, hardship and sometimes devastation that parents and families of first responders face,” O’Donnell said. “I also hope that readers realize the efforts and sacrifices of the FDNY and their families. Not only on that day but in the ensuing months and years.” Available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Westbow Press.
