A Friendly Reminder from Your Gettysburg Fire Department

When you see flashing lights, fire police, scene tape, or a road closure — whether it's a fire or a traffic crash — please stop, stay back, and follow directions.
Recently, we've had citizens entering active emergency scenes. Active scenes can change in seconds. Crash scenes especially can involve leaking fuel, broken glass, and crews working extrication just feet from traffic.

"Whether it's a house fire or a crash on the highway, when we ask you to stay back or take a detour, it isn't to inconvenience you, it's to make sure everyone goes home safely, including you." -Chief Scott McGonigal

✅ Respect all closures and scene boundaries
✅ Don't drive around barricades — take the detour
✅ If you're a resident or family member, check in with fire police at the perimeter
✅ Slow Down, Move Over — it's the law in PA
✅ Be patient — closures are temporary, and they exist to protect you

Thank you, Gettysburg, for helping us help you.
