Today Michael Burham, who escaped Warren County Prison this summer, was sentenced to 3 ½ to 7 years. He was sentenced to 21 years 8 months to 43 years 4 months on kidnapping charges prosecuted by Warren County and is also under investigation for murder in New York.

Burham was on the run for nine days in an attempt to evade justice. I commend the efforts of who captured him, as well as my team, the Warren County DA's Office, and the City of Warren Police Dept., for their work in holding him accountable for his many crimes.

My office reached an agreement with the recently-closed Pittsburgh Career Institute that ensures dozens of students are free of $218,000 in debt balances that were outstanding when the school closed in November.

It is only right that students with outstanding balances are not on the hook for those costs. My office is committed to helping students who spend money, time, and effort on higher education and do not receive the promised benefits.

My office has reached a settlement with Florida-based marketing company, RMC Direct Mail Services, LLC, over allegedly deceptive warranty mailers sent to Pennsylvanians, all of which was junk.

This marketing company has sent its last piece of junk mail to Pennsylvanians. Junk mail typically can cause inconvenience and annoyance, but this company went beyond, startling recipients with urgent messaging and false representations.

Today, two-time s*x offender Michael Flynn, from Philadelphia, was sentenced to 25-50 years in prison for an attempted s*xual assault of a child. He previously served 40 years in prison for his first offense.

Flynn proved that he is a threat to the most vulnerable in our community – our children. This sentence ensures a convicted predator will no longer have access to potential victims. My office remains committed to doing everything in our power to protect children from s*xual predators.

I am proud to have led a coalition of 29 attorneys general in influencing the Federal Communications Commission's decision to amend a rule governing telemarketing. Individual businesses must not obtain written consent from consumers before sending robotexts and making robocalls.

Robocalls are disruptors by professional scammers who pressure consumers to commit to purchase, or agree to, sham products or services. I am pleased the FCC listened to our united message to protect consumers from an onslaught of unwanted calls and text messages.
