🎖Memorial Day is more than just the start of summer. It’s a day to remember the men and women who gave everything for our country and the families who continue to carry that loss every single day.

Today, we pause to honor those who never got the chance to come home. Their sacrifice is the reason we have the freedoms and opportunities we sometimes take for granted.

As you spend time with family and friends today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.

From all of us at Harrison Fire-Rescue, thank you to those who served, those we lost, and the families who continue to honor their memory.

🚑 National EMS Week: Honoring Our Responders 🚑

This week, we proudly celebrate National EMS Week. A time to recognize the dedication, compassion, and quiet courage of our first responders who serve Harrison, Sherwood and Woodville every single day.

In 2025, our team responded to 473 calls — 473 moments when someone in our community needed help, reassurance, or lifesaving care. Behind every one of those calls stood a responder who answered without hesitation.

Today, we honor their commitment, their skill, and their heart.

To our EMS providers: thank you for the long nights, the tough calls, the steady hands, and the compassion you bring to every patient. You are the calm in the chaos, the helpers in the hardest moments, and the reason so many families rest a little easier.

Please join us in celebrating the incredible men and women of Harrison Fire‑Rescue.
Their dedication keeps our community strong.

Today we highlight one of the most powerful truths in emergency care: bystanders are almost always the first on scene. Your actions in those first critical moments can make all the difference.

Save‑A‑Life Day is all about empowering our community to step in with confidence. From Stop the Bleed to hands‑only CPR, there are simple, life‑saving skills anyone can learn.

This is the perfect day to sign up for a community CPR class or a Stop the Bleed course. There are so many great programs and toolkits available that make it easy to get trained and be ready to help when seconds matter.

Let’s build a community of lifesavers, because you never know when you might be the one who makes the difference.

Learn a skill. Save a life. 💙

Today, Harrison Fire-Rescue recognizes EMS for Children Day as a part of EMS week, highlighting the special care and attention our youngest patients need during emergencies.

Caring for children takes more than just the right equipment—it takes ongoing specialized training. Our EMS providers regularly train on pediatric emergencies so we’re ready to respond with the skill, compassion, and confidence children and their families deserve when it matters most.

But our commitment goes beyond emergency calls. We’re proud to be out in the community working with kids before an emergency ever happens. Through school visits, career days, and public education events, we help children:

✅ Become comfortable around first responders and our equipment
✅ Learn the basics of calling 911 and knowing their address
✅ Practice simple but life-saving skills like hands-only CPR
✅ Understand the importance of safety at home and in their community

By building those connections early, we not only help educate kids, we help reduce fear and build trust if they ever need us in a real emergency.

The photos shared today highlight some of those moments, from visiting local elementary schools to hands-on learning at community events. These interactions are just as important as the calls we respond to.

Thank you to our EMS providers for their dedication to both preparing for pediatric emergencies and empowering the next generation through education.

On Monday evening, members of Harrison Fire-Rescue conducted water rescue training at a local pond in the Village of Sherwood. Training like this helps us maintain and strengthen the skills needed for incidents involving retention ponds, inlet water sources, and other waterways throughout our district.

Water rescue incidents require strong coordination between emergency personnel, equipment, and specialized resources to help ensure the best possible outcome. These trainings allow our crews to practice communication, rescue techniques, scene management, and equipment deployment in a realistic environment.

We also appreciated the community's support during the training. Many residents stopped by to ask questions, speak with our members, interact with divers in the water, and even try throwing a rope bag during rescue demonstrations. Opportunities like this help build awareness and give the public a better understanding of the challenges responders face during water emergencies.

With the number of ponds, retention basins, and waterways throughout our area, it is important for everyone to recognize the hazards these bodies of water can present, especially during changing weather conditions and throughout the year. Harrison Fire-Rescue remains committed to training, preparedness, and ensuring the proper resources are ready when emergencies occur.

Today we kick off National EMS Week 2026 by honoring the heart of our profession: the health, wellness, and resilience of our EMS clinicians. Every call, every challenge, our responders continue to show strength, compassion, and dedication to the communities they serve.

This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” reminds us that caring for our teams is essential to caring for our patients.

Thank you to every EMS professional who shows up, stays strong, and keeps going. You make a difference every day. 💙
