🚔 CLICK IT OR TICKET | MAY 18–31 🚔

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is joining agencies nationwide for the “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign running May 18–31, 2026.

Seat belts save lives, yet thousands still lose their lives each year because they chose not to buckle up.

📊 In 2024:
• 9,758 unbuckled occupants were killed in traffic crashes
• Every 54 minutes, someone not wearing a seat belt died in a crash
• 56% of people killed in nighttime crashes were not buckled up
• 59% of adults ages 18–34 killed in crashes were completely unrestrained

“Wearing your seat belt should be automatic every time you get in a vehicle,” said Chief Tim Roberson. “Our goal is to save lives and remind drivers and passengers that one simple click can make all the difference.”

Deputies will conduct increased enforcement day and night throughout the campaign. Remember:
✅ Shoulder belt across your chest
✅ Lap belt across your hips
❌ Never behind your back or under your arm

“Please remind your family and friends to buckle up every trip, every time,” said Chief Tim Roberson. “Seat belts save lives.”

🚨 420 Safety Reminder 🚨

Ahead of April 20, Lt. Hornaday reminds everyone: If You Feel Different, You Drive Different.

From 2019–2021, a national study found that 26% of drivers seriously injured or killed in crashes had active THC in their system. Driving under the influence of any drug, legal or illegal is dangerous and illegal.

Ma*****na can slow reaction time, impair judgment, and make it harder to stay in your lane. All factors that lead to serious crashes.

✅ Plan ahead:
• Designate a sober driver
• Use a rideshare or taxi
• Speak up! Don’t let someone drive impaired

If you see an impaired driver, contact local law enforcement.

Let’s keep our roads safe. 🚔

🚨 Put the Phone Away or Pay 🚨

From April 9–13, law enforcement agencies across the country will be increasing enforcement on distracted driving as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

In 2024, distracted driving claimed 3,208 lives and injured over 315,000 people and those numbers are likely even higher today.

“Distracted driving, especially cell phone use, continues to be a major factor in serious and fatal crashes,” said LT. Hornaday.
“It’s dangerous, it’s illegal, and it puts everyone on the road at risk.”

“Our deputies will be out enforcing these laws. If you’re caught texting and driving, you will be ticketed — no exceptions,” LT. Hornaday added.

📵 Drive distraction-free:
• Pull over safely before using your phone
• Let a passenger handle calls or texts
• Avoid social media while driving
• Use “Do Not Disturb” mode
• Keep your phone out of reach

“No message is worth your life — or someone else’s,” said LT. Hornaday.

Let’s work together to keep our roads safe.
