🏛️ JOIN THE CITY OF HARRISON’S BUILDING AND ZONING TEAM
The City of Harrison is hiring an Administrative Assistant for the Building and Zoning Department.
This is a front-line position providing customer service to the general public, contractors, developers, City officials and employees. Service is provided in person, by phone and by email. The position requires knowledge of department functions, procedures and responsibilities and performs related duties as required. Work is performed independently under the direction of the department director, building official and coordinator.
Qualifications:
Proficiency with computers and software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite. Attention to detail and strong customer service skills are required. Applicants must be able to lift plans and boxes of paper weighing up to 50 pounds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Answer phone calls and questions from walk-in customers and resolve customer issues within the scope of authority or direct them to the appropriate staff member.
• Assist applicants with applying for permits through the permitting system.
• Distribute forms and documents and correspond with contractors, engineers and the general public regarding the permitting process.
• Accept new permit applications and distribute them to appropriate department personnel for review and approval.
• Process permits and maintain the permit database.
• Accept public records requests and fulfill or distribute them to appropriate department personnel.
• Assess fees required for building and zoning permits based on applicable fee schedules.
• Prepare the department’s daily deposit and collection reports.
• Prepare monthly, annual and other required reports regarding permit issuance.
• Invoice and collect unpaid permit fees.
• Assist with public notifications and legal advertisements for public meetings.
• Maintain and distribute flood zone information.
• Answer property maintenance questions and complaints and assist the property maintenance department as needed.
• Scan archived paper files into the computer database.
• Maintain physical and electronic filing systems, including document retention and disposal.
• Perform general office duties, including ordering supplies, mailings, meeting setup, travel arrangements and other clerical duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the department director.
Civil Service Exam
The exam will be held Saturday (Sept. 19) at 9 a.m. at the Harrison Community Center, 300 George St.
Applications for the exam must be completed in person at 300 George St., Harrison, Ohio 45030, beginning Monday (Aug. 31) through Friday (Sept. 11), between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
