If you are curious of where this smoke is coming from, it's drifting in from more northern and western states of here. Currently we do not have any fires in our district.

There are hundreds of wildfires actively burning from California through the northern Rockies. The fires are producing massive smoke plumes that are rising several thousand feet above ground level. This smoke should start clearing out by Wednesday as the wind flow continues to push it east.

The mid-level wind flow between 5,000 and 15,000 feet is generally blowing from west to east across the northern U.S. That means the smoke plumes have a relatively straight path into the Upper Midwest this week

Attention Attention!!! Hot off the press, we have a new item that has been donated to the department to raffle off.
Check out this hand-crafted one of a kind 4'3" tall hanging wooden flag. We will be out and about selling tickets throughout the fair week, and various random places between now and when we draw for it at a Sioux County home football game. So keep an eye out for the flag, it will be displayed wherever we are.
Tickets are $20.00 each and all donated raffle proceeds go directly to the Harrison Volunteer Fire Department.

Last year (the first annual) Rawhide Ranch Rodeo donated proceeds to our Fire Department, and other local fire departments and EMS in the area. This year they had 66 teams enter. It's a great community fundraiser along with many vendors, entertainment, and some wild ranch rodeo performances.

As of 7:30 a.m. today July 18, the National Multi-Agency Coordination Group (NMAC) has raised the country to Preparedness Level 5 (PL5) national.

PL5 is the highest national wildfire preparedness level in the United States. It means wildfire activity is extreme, firefighting resources are heavily committed nationwide, and additional crews, aircraft, and equipment may be limited as agencies respond to multiple large, complex incidents simultaneous.

The Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands have issued a forest‑wide fire ban due to ongoing drought conditions and an elevated risk of wildfire. The ban applies to Nebraska National Forests at Bessey and Pine Ridge Ranger Districts, Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest, as well as the Oglala, Buffalo Gap, and Fort Pierre National Grasslands.
